The GC3 (Groupe de Chasse 3) of the French Air Force.
Formed in September 1942 from French pilots to fight in the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany.
It was awarded the name Niemen by Joseph Stalin for its participation in the battles of the Niemen River.
Today, Normandie-Niemen is a squadron in the French Air Force.
