Accreditations
Brock's Faculty of Business is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business(AACSB) International. Less than 10 percent of business schools worldwide (only 17 in Canada) have earned this accreditation, the highest standard in management education.
Brock's Accounting Co-op Program is fully accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. This accreditation allows students to fulfill all credit hours required to become a Chartered Accountant while enrolled in the BAcc program.
Further, Brock's Faculty of Business is also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. Beta Gamma Sigma is the honour society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International. [4] Only five other Canadian Business Schools have attained membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. Just one year after receiving Honourable Mention in 2006, Brock University was named the Bronze Collegiate Chapter in 2007 - the highest ranking attained by any Canadian Business School. [5]
Brock's Faculty of Business is also a member of The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Based in Brussels, Belgium, the EFMD is a global accrediting body, recognizing schools of exceptional quality in management education. Only 12 other Canadian business schools have gained membership in the EFMD. [6]
Brock is one of only two universities to have its curriculum accredited by the Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA). BBA students can complete the CPSA's Professional Sales Certificate Program while completing their degree. [7]
Undergraduate Programs
Business Administration (BBA)
The Brock BBA program is a nationally-renowned undergraduate business degree program. The program is professionally oriented and combines intensive studies in business disciplines with studies in the Social Sciences, Humanities and Mathematics and Science. The program's first two years provide a foundation of business theory, while the third and fourth years are designed to allow student to concentrate on one particular area of business. The program offers a wide variety of concentrations, including: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Operations, Information Systems, General Management, International Business, and Public Administration.
Brock's BBA Program offers a Co-op component. With a 100% placement rate and co-op opportunities with many of Canada's top companies, it is a popular option for business students.
Accountancy (BAcc)
The Brock BAcc program is widely regarded as one of the province's top accounting programs. Brock's Accounting Co-op Program is the second largest in Canada and is one of only two universities in Ontario to have its undergraduate accounting program fully accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. This accreditation has resulted in Brock's Faculty of Business becoming the institution of choice for students studying to become Chartered Accountants. Unlike other programs, where students are required to take additional courses on top of their degree program, students enrolled in Brock's BAcc program are able to fulfill all 51 credit hours concurrently while completing their degree.[8]
Dual Degree Program
Brock's Dual Degree Program is a revolutionary undergraduate degree program. The program is offered in association with The European Business School, International University Schloss Reichartshausen (EBS), which is ranked as one of the top business schools in Germany. Brock students complete the first five semesters at Brock and the remaining three semesters at EBS. Each student, upon successful completion of the course of studies will receive two degrees: The Bachelor of Business Administration, International Business concentration degree from Brock and a Bachelor of Science degree from EBS. [9]
Graduate Programs
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The Brock MBA program is offered in both a part-time option as well as a 12-month program. It offers a wide range of professional develop opportunities, appealing to both recent graduates from across Canada and around the world as well as executives from many of Southern Ontario’s top corporations. The programs allows students to specialize in one of four areas: Finance, Marketing, Accounting (with the option of the joint MBA-CMA program), and Human Resource Management.
The program also offers a Co-op option to further enhance the value for students. With strong connections, both regionally and nationally, students can attain placements with a wide range of companies to gain practical experience.
Master of Accountancy (MAcc)
The Brock MAcc program was introduced in 2004. The Master of Accountancy program is specifically designed to assist students in the assimilation of advanced knowledge in accounting and related aspects of business. Students can specialize in one of three streams: General, Tax, or Information Systems. [10]
Master of Science (MSc)
The Brock MSc program allows students with relevant undergraduate degrees to further focus their studies in a particular functional area of business.
These more research-oriented programs are consistent with an increasing demand on the part of industry and government for researchers and consultants in the various disciplines of business. The primary objective of the MSc program is to provide students with depth and breadth of knowledge in a specialized area that would allow them to pursue further levels of education.
Taro Hall
Taro Hall houses Brock's Faculty of Business. It was opened in 1990 and was designed by Moriyama & Teshima Architects. Taro Hall is primarily used for Faculty offices, including the Dean of the Faculty of Business, and lecture halls. It contains six lecture halls for undergraduate students (BBA & BAcc), three lecture halls for graduate students (MBA, MAcc, IMAcc, and MSc), and a number of break-out rooms for group study. There is also a student lounge and computer commons specifically for graduate business students. In December 2007, Taro Hall underwent an extensive renovation to upgrade the entire facility.
Brock Business Consulting Group
The Brock Business Consulting Group employs MBA candidates from the MBA program to provide business consultancy services to the Niagara region. Established in 2004, the BCG specializes in business strategy for small-and-medium businesses as well as not-for-profit organizations. [11]
Management Development Centre
The Management Development Centre offers top quality management and leadership development courses and seminars for middle and senior managers. Operated out of the Faculty of Business, the MDC is dedicated to providing quality lifelong learning opportunities to managers and executives working in both private and public sector environments. [12]
Student Life
Brock Faculty of Business students enjoy a vibrant number of options to get involved outside of the classroom. With student associations at both the graduate and undergraduate level, students can apply many of the theories and techniques learned in the classroom in the real world. The Faculty of Business student associations run the majority of the on-campus activities for Faculty of Business students such as inter-collegiate business competitions, socials, networking and professional development event, as well as the annual Faculty of Business Formal.
