Summary

Description
English: Residential building Mehringdamm No. 53 (Belle-Alliance-Straße 81 until bis 1946/47) in Kreuzberg, Berlin. The three-storey house with a small factory court in the rear part of the lot was built in 1862 by August Hahnemann. Starting in 1883, the rear buildings were used by the chocolate factory "Hoffmann & Tiede" and, after its merger with "Felix & Sarotti" in 1903, production continued under the new name Sarotti Chocolate and Cacao Industry AG. Although buildings at adjacent Mehringdamm No. 53 (Belle-Alliance-Straße 83) and Mehringdamm No. 55 (Belle-Alliance-Straße 82) were eventually also used, the premises soon turned out to be too small for the prospering company. Thus in 1913, Sarotti moved to Tempelhof, now a part of Berlin. The house Mehringdamm 57 and the former factory buildings are part of the protected historic buildings area Quartier Riehmers Hofgarten.
