English: Two buses from the Birkenhead Motor Bus and Transit Company (directors Ewen Alison, Tom Smith and Francis James Stewart), parked in front of the Foresters Hall on the occasion of the company's first trip to Albany. This occasion marked the opening day of the company when Council members and the company's directors and shareholders were driven to Albany for a function and afternoon tea.

Historical note: The first bus had a Kissel Chassis which had been built for a fire engine. Cousins and Cousins built the bus body in 1914-15. It had solid rubber tyres and canvas sides with leather rings. (Herby) G.H. Eccles made brass clips to hold the rolled canvas and to allow for easy release when it rained. The bus had electric lights generated by the engine and the motor used benzine. The second bus also had solid rubber tyres and had carbide gas lamps run by a big gas generator. It was built by Cavenor & Co., Upper Queen Street.

Foresters Hall stood where the State Insurance office is today in Hinemoa street. It was built in 1911 for the Ancient Order of Foresters who were a friendly society. Before the days of social security they provided medical care and death benefits for contributing members. To raise funds the hall was often hired out for varied functions. A picture theatre was operated on the ground floor and the top floor was used as a dance hall.
