Description
English: Copy made during the Mexican colonial period of a portrait dated to the year 1525 of Hernán Cortés, general captain of the Spanish troops that entered Mexico in 1519 and conquered it in 1521, who also acted as the first governor of New Spain. Aside from an illustration by a German artist Cristoph Weiditz, this is one of the three known copies of portraits that were likely made during Cortés' lifetime. Its artist is anonymous.
Español: Copia hecha en el periodo colonial mexicano de un retrato fechado al año 1525 de Hernán Cortés, capitán general de las tropas españolas que entraron a México en 1519 y lo conquistaron en 1521, quien también actuó como el primer gobernador de la Nueva España. Aparte de una ilustración por el artista alemán Cristoph Weiditz, esta es una de las tres copias conocidas de retratos que probablemente fueron hechos cuando Cortés seguía vivo. Su artista es anónimo.
