Carnforth East Junction signal box in the v of the junction of the lines to Carnforth F. & M. Junction signal box (in front of the box) and to Carnforth Station Junction signal box. Tuesday 28th April 1987
Carnforth East Junction signal box was was a Midland Railway type 3a design fitted with a 24 lever Midland Railway Tumbler frame which opened on 19th January 1902 replacing an 1880-built box located at the non-steps end. The signal box was taken out of use on 12th November 1989 and closed on 7th November 1998, when the absolute block section was extended to between Carnforth Station Junction and Wennington signal boxes and the line from Carnforth East Junction to Carnforth F. & M. Junction was closed
The London Midland and Scottish Railway nameboards are located on the end of the signal box above the eaves, a London Midland and Scottish Railway practice that was peculiar to the Furness section
Missing from the roof are the two wooden finials and by the near corner post are two replacement window sashes which are missing Midland Railway style timber corner pieces at the top
By the signal box steps is 5 signal (up home from Carnforth Station Junction) which is carried on a tubular post
