Summary

Description
English: College/courthouse/dwelling A plaque set in the wall of this roadside building in the small village of Felindre Farchog bears the words LLYS-DY ARGLWYDDI CEMMAES (Courthouse of the lords of Cemmaes) and the dates 1626, 1852 and 2000, the last being the year when it was refurbished as a private dwelling after a period of lying empty. The original structure is said to have been built by the 17th century lord of Cemmaes, Sir George Owen, who lived nearby, and may have been intended as a school; in 1852 it was rebuilt in Tudor Gothic style as courthouse for the barony of Cemmaes. The village itself was once known as College but its Welsh name means 'knight's mill place'.
