Description Imperial albumen print photograph, 5 5/16 by 7 7/8 inches, group portrait of Cheyenne captives following the attack on Washita by Custer's forces, 1868, Kansas, mounted to card. Most of the Cheyenne captives are visible in this photograph, taken at Fort Dodge en route to the stockade at Fort Hays, Kansas; to the left stands U.S. Army chief of scouts John O. Austin.
