Summary

Description

Eight varieties of pears from U.S. markets. These were purchased in the U.S. state of Michigan, at two grocery stores, in October 2007.

Names sold under, from left to right, with notes in parentheses

  1. Bartlett (also called a Yellow Bartlett, known as the Williams outside North America)
  2. Red Bartlett (organic; presumably a Red Williams in other countries)
  3. Red Bartlett (several distinct varieties are called "red bartletts"; not sure store's name is correct but that's what it was labeled)
  4. D'Anjou
  5. Bosc (organic)
  6. Comice
  7. Concorde
  8. Seckel (they really are that small relative to others)
For relative sizes, the third pear, the bright red one, is 3 1/16 inches wide at its widest, and 4 1/4 inches tall excluding the stem.
