Immature male Fiery Skimmer, Orthetrum villosovittatum. Como, NSW, Australia, January 2012.
This dragonfly's wings have an orange colouring close to its body and are about 35mm long. For comparison, the wooden garden stake is about 20mm square.
According to Gunther Theischinger and John Hawking, for a male Orthetrum villosovittatum, segment 4 of his abdomen is narrower than segments 3 or 5; ie his abdomen forms a narrow waist close to his body.
