Notes

This is one of the water-colour drawings made by Georg Forster during James Cook's second voyage to the Pacific in 1772-1775.

The watercolour is listed by Sharpe 1906, p. 180 and by Lysaght 1959 p. 281 as Plate 34. This is the number written on the right-hand side of the watercolour.

John Latham based his description of the "Statenland eagle" on notes provided by Georg Forster's father Johann Reinhold Forster.(Latham, 1781, pp. 40-41).

The watercolour was painted in 1775 at Isla de los Estados (Staten Island).(Lysaght 1959, p. 281)
