Monseigneur de Ségur

  • Peintre, prêtre du diocèse de Paris, auditeur de la Rote, chanoine de Saint-Denis
  • Né le 15 avril 1820
  • Décédé le 9 juin 1881
  • Peintre talentueux puis attaché d'ambassade auprès du Saint Siège, sa vocation sacerdotale se révèle à lui durant son séjour à Rome. Malgré la vive opposition de son père, voltairien sceptique, et de sa mère qui a d'autres ambitions pour son aîné, il entre au séminaire Saint Sulpice et est ordonné prêtre pour le diocèse de Paris par Mgr Affre en 1847.

Apprécié par le pape Pie IX et sans doute destiné à l'épiscopat, il devint totalement aveugle à la suite d'une maladie et dût démissionner de ses fonctions d'auditeur de Rote. Le Pape lui conféra le titre de monseigneur, il rentra à Paris, et passa le reste de sa vie à confesser et à prêcher, exerçant son ministère au sein du milieu ouvrier. Son influence sur sa mère fut grande, et elle lui demanda conseil pour la plupart de ses livres, en particulier pour La Bible d'une grand'mère.

Il mourut en 1881 et ses funérailles furent très suivies, tant il était aimé. MD
