Instrument d'étude et de mesure, un astrolabe sphérique est un modèle tridimensionnel des cieux. Celui-ci est le 3e plus ancien conservé au monde.

Il porte les 48 constellations identifiées par le Grec Ptolémée à Alexandrie au 2e siècle. Les 1025 étoiles sont signalées par des points d'argent dont la taille varie en fonction de la brillance observée de l'astre. L'inscription gravée par Yunus dit qu'il refit les calculs de coordonnées en tenant compte du temps écoulé depuis l’œuvre de Ptolémée.

Shown at the Louvre Museum. Engraved bronze inlaid with silver. A spherical astrolabe is a three dimensional model of the universe for observation and measurement. This globe, the 3rd oldest surviving in the world, shows the 48 constellations identified by the Greec Ptolemy in Alexandria. The 1025 stars are represented by silver dots that vary in size according the the observed brightness of each one.

The inscription states that Yunus recalculated the coordinates taking into account the lapse of time between Ptolemy's work and his own
