Description
English: Grave of the prominent Liberal contributor to the 'Edinburgh Review', Court of Session judge and mover of the 1832 Electoral Reform Act. His autobiographical 'Circuit Journeys' and 'Memorials Of His Time' (1856) are indispensable sources for appreciating the atmosphere of 19thC Scotland, especially Edinburgh. His passionate advocacy of architectural conservation left a legacy upheld today by the Cockburn Association (Edinburgh Civic Trust), founded in 1875 and named in his honour.
