Description
English: The Greek Women of Souli Running to Their Death was a popular theme among painters after the Greek War of Independence. Dozens of artists created works personifying the women and children of Souli who jumped to their deaths while dancing. The theme became known as the Dance of Zalongo and was a media instrument to gain sympathy for the Greek struggle. The Greek Slave movement had a similar theme.
