Summary
[edit]Description | John Henry Pyle Pafford (March 6, 1900 – March 11, 1996) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
Author or copyright owner |
Photographer unknown. Not credited in source text | |||
Source (WP:NFCC#4) | Original publication: Frontispiece Librarianship and Literature Essays in Honour of Jack Pafford, edited by A. T. Milne, University of London, The Athlone Press, 1970 Immediate source: My own copy of this text. | |||
Date of publication | In the above, 1970. Page viii states: ‘The photograph used for the frontispiece was taken in 1967 at the time of Dr Pafford’s retirement.’ | |||
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | John Henry Pyle Pafford | |||
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of his/her biographical article | |||
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
No photograph of Pafford appears to be on the internet, nor have I seen any newspaper pictures of him, though working on Pafford's career for several years. Professor Simon Eliot has made inquiries in London University (where he himself works, as did Pafford) but there now seems to be no trace of the man. The photograph I propose to use was specially taken to mark his retirement, and for use in the Milne collection of essays. It is the definitive image. | |||
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | It will be used only to head up the Pafford Wikiepedia entry. | |||
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
Its use has been cleared by the present copyright owner, Bloomsbury Publishing plc (which acquired all the Athlone Press Rights via its takeover of Continuum).
Confirmatory e mail, 07 January 2013 : "This is fine and permission is granted for use as below."* Kind regards Claire Weatherhead Permissions Manager Bloomsbury Publishing Plc [*below refers to my prior e mailed offer (04 January 2013): ‘If the photograph is allowed to appear in the Wikipedia entry for 'John Henry Pyle Pafford 1900-1996', it would be used only for that non-profit-making purpose; and full acknowledgements would be made.’] | |||
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since: March 11 1996
