Summary
[edit]"Mirth & Girth" by David Nelson, a student of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The image is an interpretive painting of the late Chicago, Illinois mayor Harold Washington dressed in women's underwear, reflected in a cited rumor that the mayor was discovered at the hospital to have been wearing women's underwear. The image caused significant uproar and controversy in Chicago at the time of its display.
