English: An evolutionary tree of various songs of the Southern Islands, adopted from a figure at page 226 of the Nantō kayō (1977) by Ono Jūrō. The line width indicates prevalence. Stripes mark lyric songs while the rest means epic songs. Since historical songs are sparcely attested, most dates presented in this figure are educated guesses.
