English: The old Jewish Burial Ground at Sciennes dates from 1813. It was formerly reached by a lane known as Jews Close. Four generations of Jewish families were buried here before the Jewish community acquired ground, first in Newington cemetery and later in Piershill cemetery. The families buried here came originally from Germany and the Low Countries, trading in clothing, furs and jewellery.
