Painting: 110 cm X 75 cm Pauline Laurens (27 May 1850-1 January 1941) was a French painter and printmaker during the Belle Époque. She studied privately with masters such as Charles Joshua Chaplin. She specialised in portraits. She exhibited in the Salon, starting in 1873. The Portrait of Navy Captain Gustave Besnard was exhibited in the 1884 Paris Salon. Most of Pauline Laurens work belongs to private art collectors.Français : Portrait du capitaine de vaisseau Gustave Besnard, peint par Pauline Laurens en 1883. Gustave Besnard (1833-1903) a les deux mains posées sur son sabre de marine. Deux effets de lumière éclairent l’un le visage et l’épaulette droite, l’autre les mains.
Le corps est montré de trois quarts et le visage est peint de face, regardant le spectateur du tableau avec une expression calme et résolue. Le tableau est signé et daté, en bas à droite : Pauline Laurens 1883. Hauteur : 110 cm; Largeur : 75 cm. Huile sur toile. Peinte en 1883. Collection particulière. Pauline Laurens, née le 27 mai 1850 à Bordeaux et morte le 1er janvier 1941 à Paris, est une artiste peintre de la Belle Époque, spécialisée dans les portraits. Elle est connue également pour ses eaux fortes. Elle expose ses œuvres au salon de Paris tous les ans à partir de 1873. Le Portrait du capitaine de vaisseau Gustave Besnard a été exposé au salon de Paris de 1884. La plupart des peintures de Pauline Laurens sont la propriété de collectionneurs privés. |
