English: Painting by Roger Winter, Interurban, (oil on linen, 25” x 31”, 1968). The image illustrates the narrative mode influenced by collage that Roger Winter began exploring in the 1960s, a style characterized by complex juxtapositions, references to his childhood and family, and the sense that they contain deeper meaning. Interurban includes figures based on old photographs, black silhouette shapes, and buildings in a flat, stylized space. This painting and similar works have been exhibited in prominent galleries and museums in the United States, discussed in a monograph and numerous press publications, and many have been acquired by major museums and prominent corporate and private collections.
