Summary

Description
English: St George of Labechina, Georgia, second decade of the 11th century.

Transcaucasia, nationalism and social change: essays in the history of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia (1996), p. 19: "the nearly contemporary (to the 11th c. Nikortsminda icon) Labechina icon among others, directly reproduces that of the representation of Ahura-Mazda trampling over the demonic Ahreman"

"An interesting attempt at blending banded and riveted lamellar armour is shown on the Labechina icon of equestrian St George, [fig. 14], dating from the second decade of the 11th century. Here on a banded klibanion (as well as on kremasmata) we see plates with (upper - lower) rivets of an earlier type, which later were completely superseded by plates with riveting in their upper part."
