Summary

Description
English: A crude model of bending long rod in two dimensions can be achieved using a collection of trapezoids that were deformed from squares. These trapezoids require an inhomogeneous tensor field. The square shaped diamond represents no deformation. But on the inner and outer radius, it is necessary to compress or stretch the rod. This model also describes the bending of a thin sheet in three dimensions.
