Summary

Description

Syringa pubescens subsp. patula 'Miss Kim' 5/2021 Manchurian lilac- (Meader, 1947) Manchurian lilac, Mature size: 6x6’, orchid-pink, USDA Hardiness Zone 3, Michigan Bloom Month 5c-, In Garden Bed F4,08,2 for 8.8 YEARS (Lowes,). Planted in 2012.

Missouri Botanical Garden: 'Miss Kim' is a compact, upright cultivar which grows 4-7' tall with a similar spread. Lavender to ice blue, sweetly fragrant, single flowers are arranged in dense, terminal clusters (panicles to 3" long) which cover this shrub in May (St. Louis). Elliptic to ovate, dark green leaves (to 5" long) turn burgundy (often attractive) in autumn. A good selection for southern climates.

Big Box item. Popular cultivar 'Miss Kim' was obtained from seed from Korea's Pouk Han Mountains in 1947 by E. M. Meader. Meader germinated the seed and selected Miss Kim. The seedling was named 'Miss Kim', Kim being a common name in Korea. Released in 1954. I planted this one in 2012.
