This is a template for making Virginia-style cutout U.S. Highway shields.

How to derive an image from this template
To create an image using this template:
  1. Download this SVG.
  2. Open the SVG in an SVG editor and change the wording and numbering.
  3. Convert all text to a path and save as a basic or plain SVG.
  4. Upload the new SVG to Wikimedia Commons.
1 digit shields use Series D, 2 digit shields use Series C, 3 digit shields use Series B.

Public domain This file is in the public domain because it comes from the Virginia Supplement to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, sign number G-29. The Virginia Supplement states on page I-2 "The MUTCD contains its own introduction which shall remain in force in addition to this Introduction for this Supplement. Technical sections contained within the remainder of this Supplement shall replace the corresponding section in the MUTCD in its entirety. If a section from the MUTCD is not contained within this Supplement, the section in the MUTCD shall remain in force." The federal MUTCD states specifically on page I-1 that:
Any traffic control device design or application provision contained in this Manual shall be considered to be in the public domain. Traffic control devices contained in this Manual shall not be protected by a patent, trademark, or copyright, except for the Interstate Shield and any other items owned by FHWA.
