Summary

Description
English: Walpole railway station memorial and village sign
Not exactly a village sign but serving as a reminder of the Midland and Great Northern Railway which opened in 1859 and closed in 1959. The A17 which is not many yards away, follows the line of the old railway track. The garden which surrounds the memorial is itself a memorial in remembrance of Eva Kemp 1913 -2002, who taught at Walpole Cross Keys school for 43 years. She served on the Parish Council for 40 years, and Borough and District Council for 35 years, and as Borough Mayor for a short while, ten years before her death and is very obviously fondly remembered.
