For the movements the map is OK. I would have prefered some more place names though.

I didn't know Wellington's headquarters remained north of Hal during the whole campaign.

If all the flags shall be shown, the Brunswick, Hanoverian and Nassau flags are missing, all the three being independent states who joined the coalition against Napoleon and provided troops for Wellington's army during the Waterloo campaign. Or maybe the flag of the commander is sufficient, then skip the Netherlandish one.

The eagle on the Prussian flag is anachronistic - it is of the pattern introduced as late as 24th January 1894. However, there was no National Prussian flag before 1816, and this was introduced only for ships. Durin the whole 18th century and at least the first half of the 19th, the Prussian government was represented by painted wooden eagles attached to official buildings.

"FOR THE MOVEMENTS THE MAP IS OK."?

[edit]

Not for me. As I clicked on the 'close-up', I was eagerly looking forward to being able to follow the routes of the protagonists across the battle(s) area(s). Imagine my surprise..... well, maybe that's a bit melodramatic.... I was sorry to see that only the area around Waterloo was shown.

That was a huge battle, with much of Europe's (and, possibly Russia's / USSR's) history in the balance, and much more in the way of explanatory features and (some sort of) interaction devise(s) (no matter how rudimentary) should be added.

WOOO...AAAAAAAAA!!!!

Sorry to sound so.....SO...SO!!... whiney. If I could just see those routes magnified, without my using a magnifying lens.....

Won some awards, did it? must be me....... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ardee4444444444 (talkcontribs) 01:04, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CAN WE HAVE A 'NORTH' DIRECTION, PLEASE?

[edit]

Normally considered a 'basic' element of map-reading, particularly when the text refers to compass directions..

While this map *appears* initially relatively clear & detailed, the general standard & comprehensibility of military maps on Wikipedia (as compared with their accompanying articles) is rather limited.

As I've only just started reading the article, and don't have extensive time, I'm only as yet partially informed -- but I'd perhaps also point out here that 'Brussels' *might* be considered a significant reference point or landmark, even if only for the modern reader, and thus merit at least a moderately large typesize for its label.

And, I do like to see the basics -- when I start reading the article, I *look* to find the referenced places (Brussels) and the compass directions (SW).

I don't like when they aren't prominent or even present at all, on the map.

I don't have an SVG editor, but I don't think (without compass directions) this map is good enough to be nominated for anything. Thanks for whoever did the good initial detail, and to whoever would like to make these couple of improvements to make this map a *genuinely* excellent map.
