Twelve ships of the French Navy have borne the name Hermione, in honour of Hermione, daughter of King Menelaus of Sparta and his wife, Helen of Troy.

[edit]- ^ Roche (vol.1, p.241) mentions HMS Hermione of 1782 as having been surrendered by her mutinied crew and perhaps incorporated in the French Navy; it appears, however, that she was with the Spanish Navy the entire time until her recapture by the Royal Navy.
