I Can See Your Voice franchise |
I Can See Your Voice Thailand (alternatively titled Secret Singers; Thai: นักร้องซ่อนแอบ; RTGS: Nak rong son aep) is a Thai television mystery music game show series based on the South Korean programme of the same name. Also as the first country to air its local adaptation, it premiered on Workpoint TV on 13 January 2016,[1] and has been aired for six seasons.
Gameplay
[edit]Format
[edit]Presented with a group of "mystery singers",[a] the guest artist(s) must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of four rounds. At the end of a game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of a duet between them and one of the guest artists.
The Thai adaptation has two different game formats:
- Original format
- The guest artist(s) eliminate mystery singers at the end of each round, with the last remaining mystery singer ended up in a duet performance by one of the guest artists.
- Battle format (s3–4)
- A variation of the original South Korean rules adapted from Giọng ải giọng ai, when two opposing guest artists eliminate one singer each during the proper game phase, and then remain one singer each to join the final performance. At the end of a game, the following conditions for winning mystery singers chosen by opposing guest artists, depending on the outcome of final performances, if:
- One opposing guest artist has revealed as a good singer and the other one has a bad singer, or
- Both two opposing guest artists have revealed as good or bad singers.
Rounds
[edit]Visual rounds
[edit]- s1–4, 6: The guest artist is given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance. Afterward, a muted video of each mystery singer that reveals only 0.3 seconds of their singing voice is played as an additional hint.
- s5: The host is given three "keywords" depending on the mystery singer's identity. Afterward, five different voice snippets from the muted video are being played.
Introduction round
[edit]- s1–5: Each mystery singer self-introduces to guest artist and panelists. Good singers are telling the truth, while bad singers are allowed to lie.
Lip sync rounds
[edit]- s1–4, 6: Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song; good singers mime to a recording of their own, while bad singers mime to a recording by someone else.
- s5: All of mystery singers perform their lip sync on separate phases, with the good singers' recordings first, and then the bad singers last.
Evidence round
[edit]- s5: The guest artist must assign three "mystery songs" to one of the mystery singers of their chosen. Afterward, they must react toward that song.
Interrogation round
[edit]- s1–2, 6: The guest artist (and then panelists) may ask questions to the remaining mystery singers. Good singers are required to give truthful responses, while the bad singers must lie.
Talent round
[edit]- s1–6: The guest artist must describe one of the mystery singer's other talents, except "singing" itself. This may not be related to the "stage of truth", but depends on their identity.
Background
[edit]Production and development
[edit]A local adaptation of I Can See Your Voice in Thailand was first mentioned, as per report by BNT News at the time of its (South Korean) second season that premiered on 22 October 2015;[3] this was subsequently confirmed by Workpoint Entertainment in January 2016.[2]
Naming
[edit]For the show's fifth anniversary and its subsequent season, it was subtitled as I Can See Your Voice Festival because of the monicker that applies on a random-specific theme, affecting their lineup of mystery singers.[4] For the sixth season, it was subtitled as I Can See Your Voice T-pop, actually featuring guest artists that related to the Thai pop music itself.[5][6]
Filming
[edit]Filming of the took place at Workpoint Studio in Mueang, Pathum Thani.[2] Bigo Live also collaborated to produce the fourth season premiere.[7] During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has filmed under implementing health and safety protocols since from third to fourth season. Spectators are now allowed on filmings for the sixth season.[8]
Broadcast history
[edit]I Can See Your Voice Thailand debuted on 13 January 2016. A second season immediately began airing on 16 August 2017, a week after its first season finale.[9][b] In collaboration with Bigo Live, Trinity played in the fourth season premiere on 4 November 2020.[12][13] The fifth anniversary and subsequent season (subtitled I Can See Your Voice Festival) premiered on 13 October 2021[4][14] until it formally ended on 23 February 2022.[c]
After a one-year and three-month hiatus, the series made a seasonally-held sixth season (subtitled I Can See Your Voice T-pop)[5][6] that premiered on 5 July 2023.[17][18]
Special episodes and companion event
[edit]The first two seasons of the show were preempted due to its month-long mourning period on the death of King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej,[19] which would later follow by the airing of Memorial Showcase special.[20] Other highlight specials that have occasionally aired are the New Year's Countdown Showcases[21] and the weather-themed Summer, Rainy and Winter Showcases.[22]
In the fourth season, Bigo Live conducted a competitive event I Can See My Voice,[13] in which a mystery singer having the most popular votes, would allow to perform a duet alongside one of the guest artists.[7]
Cast
[edit]The series has a panel of celebrities who assist the guest artist(s) to decipher mystery singers' identities throughout the game. Alongside with mainstays, guest panelists also appear since the first season. Overall, 13 different members have been assigned as panelists, with their original lineup being Thanawat Prasitsomporn , Neung Jakkawal , and Maneenuch Smerasut .[23]
Beside them, subsequent members that have assigned panelist duties also include Techin Ploypetch , Darunee Sutiphitak (from 2nd season); Nilubon Amonwitthawat , Nachat Janthapan , Kapol Thongplub, Chaleumpol Tikumpornteerawong (from 3rd season); Panupan Jantanawong , Mongkol Sa-ardboonyaphat (from 4th season); Nalin Hohler and Warawut Poyim (from 6th season).
