The tour recorded a back then unprecedented demand and ticket sales. The tour bolstered economies, businesses, and tourism worldwide; dominated news cycles and social media engagement; and garnered tributes and accolades from various governments and organizations.
Background
[edit]Taylor Swift announced the tour shortly after releasing her album Lover (album). Swift expressed in an interview that she did not want to keep releasing albums and going on tour for them. [1] Because her mother had cancer at the time, she did not want to be away from home for a prolonged period of time. [2]
Announcement
[edit]Swift announced the US dates in September of 2019, and then announced international dates shortly after. [3][4]
Cancellation
[edit]In April 2020, some of the festivals got cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then Taylor Swift announced that she would do the tour in 2021 instead.[5] On February 26, 2021, Swift announced that the tour was cancelled completely.[6][7]
In 2022, Taylor Swift went on the Eras Tour (2023–2024) instead.[8][9]
