David Moyes
[edit]The David Moyes article indicates he played for ÍBV in 1978 (when he would have been 15). Is this correct? There is an associated reference but it seems to indicate he played for a different Icelandic club so I don't quite understand. Can anyone clarify this?--A bit iffy (talk) 11:09, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- I answered you on Moyes' talk page. finval (talk) 18:21, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

ÍBV-íþróttafélag → Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja – ÍBV-íþróttafélag is only one of many ÍBV entities for football and handball, main name of the club is Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (ÍBV) and under that brand are many ÍBV associations only for financial separation purposes. - Move to ÍBV Sports Club per WP:UE. The website is in Icelandic, but a pdf found there [1] is in English and uses this name. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 00:57, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- For clarity, this would be a reversal of the move from January by Alvaldi, the edit summary for the move was: Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja and ÍBV-íþróttafélag are two different entities. ÍBV-íþróttafélag is the official name of the sports club the article is about. Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja is the Sports District Association of Vestmannaeyjar. – Thjarkur (talk) 08:16, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose per rationale given by Alvaldi. If that is wrong, let me know... GiantSnowman 20:13, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- Relsting comment: The rationale for the previous bold move was Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja and ÍBV-íþróttafélag are two different entities. ÍBV-íþróttafélag is the official name of the sports club the article is about. Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja is the Sports District Association of Vestmannaeyjar. The diff is given above, as is a link to an official club document. But nowhere do I see any reference at all to reliable secondary sources in English. Were I to close the discussion at this point, I would be tempted to discard everything! So can we have some discussion in terms of wp:AT please? Andrewa (talk) 23:42, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- The íþróttafélag and íþróttabandalag both use the "ÍBV" brand, and I don't see any reason why both can't be discussed in one article named ÍBV Sports Club. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 18:59, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
- Neither do I. All the current references in the article are in Icelandic so are no help. The only document in English on the website is a pdf (referred to above) which refers to the overall organisation as ÍBV Sports Club, and although that is a primary source, in the absence of secondary English sources it's good enough IMO. Andrewa (talk) 12:31, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- ÍBV-Íþróttafélag is just one of many ÍBV association, that only concludes Handball and Football and is never referred as ÍBV-Íþróttafélag only for the "tax agency". Just like Knattspyrnufélag Í.A. Refrence, is one of Íþróttabandalag Akranes, and is just known as ÍA, has its own association for governmental purposes. Not all clubs in Iceland have the same Kennitala (ID) for different sports, there for they have to have different names, like ÍBV-Íþróttafélag or Knattspyrnufélag Í.A. for example. But noone referees to the clubs with these names.Halli (talk) 18:00, 23 March 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Halli (talk • contribs) 17:58, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: No consensus after more than a month. However, there is a consensus that the current title is inappropriate on several counts, so it should be moved somewhere. Per WP:NOGOODOPTIONS I'm picking Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja as the previous title and the one reluctantly agreed by several posters. No such user (talk) 09:12, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
ÍBV-íþróttafélag → ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar – ÍBV facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/IBVsport, club does not identify it self as ÍBV-íþróttafélag, it is only used as Kennitala name (ID number name) Halli (talk) 13:50, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- What about moving to just ÍBV? It is the common name. – Thjarkur (talk) 14:34, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Move to ÍBV Sports Club per the discussion in previous RM. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 15:15, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- I made the WP:BOLD move of moving the article to ÍBV-íþróttafélag after going through the laws of both entities (see here and here). I am having second thoughts after going through the rationales made by Halli. I now support to move the article back to Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (similar to Íþróttabandalag Akraness) or ÍBV and have one article about the ÍBV brand name. I am against using ÍBV Sports Club as that only alludes to the entitie that runs the football and handball teams. - Alvaldi (talk) 16:08, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Can we please use English? Per WP:UE: If there is no established English-language treatment for a name, translate it if this can be done without loss of accuracy and with greater understanding for the English-speaking reader. I take it you speak Icelandic, so if IBV Sports Club isn't an accurate translation, please suggest one that is. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 16:20, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- I don't know of a good translation for Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja, at least none that is in common usage (Sports Union/association/coalition of Vestmannaeyjar would be a direct translation). It is not uncommon for articles of sports club to use their local name and then have an english translation in the article, for instance FC Barcelona Bàsquet, Real Madrid Baloncesto, Örebro SK, Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur and Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. - Alvaldi (talk) 17:52, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

- Move to Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja per Alvaldi. GiantSnowman 10:53, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Move to ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar even though I deep down dislike these types of titles where the location is added after the real name (same with e.g. AEK Athens), but this is usually how it is presented in non-Icelandic contexts. Alternatively move to Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja. – Elisson • T • C • 16:09, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
