Article renaming
[edit]This article requires a move due to "Britain" being mis-spelt. The title should also reflect the various countries that the tour visited - Britain, Ireland, France and the USA.
I made a bit of a mess of renaming the 1984 tour title so I'd appreciate any suggestions - my first thought would be "1947-48 Australia rugby union tour of Europe and the USA" but equally "1947-48 Australia rugby union tour" would be simpler and there would be no confusion, as there was no other 1947-48 Wallaby tour.
Anyone have any thoughts?--Bcp67 (talk) 19:34, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- "1947-48 Australia rugby union tour" is the correct title as far as I can see, Wallaby is very rugby specific and doesn't help the casual reader who doesn't know of the rugby nicknames. Want to move it Bcp67? FruitMonkey (talk) 20:21, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- I won't move it until I've seen if any other comments come in. Sticks66 has done a lot of work on this article and I'll see if they have anything to add.--Bcp67 (talk) 05:18, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes the mispelling is a bit of a clanger. My focus in naming this and the 1927-28 article was to move away from the Grand Slam terminology. That done, I guess we now ought get some consistency. Most of the tours say Year Nationality rugby union tour of Somewhere (except that the British Lions tour articles name the Lions emblem, and I understand why) . So I would have no problem with 1947-48 Australian rugby union tour of Europe and North America(they went to both Canada & the USA). Further I think the 1927-28 Waratahs article should name them as the NSW Waratahs since in name, although not in selection reality they weren't a full Australian side. For consistency perhaps it should be renamed 1927-28 NSW Waratahs rugby union tour of Europe and Canada -Sticks66 11:31, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Bcp do you want to do the re-naming/re-directs ?-Sticks66 12:24, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for comments, and I have gone with the last suggestion which seems to exactly sum up the tour title. I'm all for consistency and personally I feel they all should follow this pattern - the "Grand Slam tour" thing is a nonsense, as I've said elsewhere I think. Although I have never used the words "rugby union" when starting a Lions article, so I guess I am as culpable as anyone! I've done the moves and redirects, and I think I'll probably do some others as time permits. Thanks to you all again.--Bcp67 (talk) 19:01, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
This article has been moved again, without discussion, on the basis "it sounds better", and leaving a load of double redirects into the bargain. I'm putting it back how it was. I've left a note on Mr Hall of England's talk page suggesting he comes here and makes a case for the move --Bcp67 (talk) 18:42, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

endash
[edit]The purpose of my recent move was to put an endash rather than a hyphen in the title. I hadn't realized I was changing anything else. "Noq" has said that he moved it "back", but he left the endash intact, thus creating a title the article never had before.
The endash is correct; the hyphen is not. See WP:MOS. Michael Hardy (talk) 05:26, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
All matches are relevant tour matches . The term ‘ Exhibition Matchrs ‘ is not used in rugby Union . Whilst the Test matches are the most prominent , the club / regional games are just as important 49.196.241.32 (talk) 07:10, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
