Is he a pretender now?
[edit]Is he a pretender now?
Now he claims himself as new Head of the House under 1997 agreement. And some German newspaper referred him as new Head of the House (or rival claimant of Prince Albert).

He is, properly speaking, the pretender to the Portuguese throne as the heir, by agnatic-cognatic (male-preference) primogeniture, of Maria II. Duarte Pio's claim to the Portuguese throne is predicated upon a Miguelist interpretation where Pedro IV (and I of Brazil) and Maria II were not truly the lawful monarchs of Portugal. His mother, Princess Anna of Saxony, is the oldest daughter of Friedrich Christian, Margrave of Meissen, with issue, and none of Friedrich Christian's sons have surviving issue. Friedrich Christian became rightful King of Portugal after his older brother George, Crown Prince of Saxony, died, or perhaps when he renounced royal claims to the Crown of Saxony to become a Jesuit(his failure to mention Portugal is likely because of lack of knowledge; he probably would have renounced the claim if he knew.) Georg became rightful King of Portugal upon Manuel II's death as the most senior heir of Maria II by male-preference primogeniture. Before him, their father Friedrich Augustus III of Saxony was the oldest son of Infanta Maria Anna of Portugal, the eldest daughter of Maria II. By this time, all of Maria II's male line heirs had died, and George, Jesuit priest and former Crown Prince of Saxony, would have inherited the Portuguese Crown. Upon his death in 1943, his younger brother Friedrich Christian would inherit, after which the crown would eventually reach Alexander, Margrave of Meissen, his grandson by Princess Anna of Saxony, after her two older sisters and her younger brother died without surviving issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.208.186.133 (talk) 06:49, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- Your response is not relevant to the question asked. The Albertian Saxons were the heir generals of Maria II of Portugal but they are barred from the throne because none of them have Portuguese citizenship and are considered foreigners; after the lesson of the Iberian Union and what allowing a Spanish king to succeed in Portugal does, Portugal's succession laws specifically forbade accession of foreigners.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 03:51, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Margrave of Meissen
[edit]German newspaper Bild refered him as "Alexander Markgraf von Meißen". (der neue Wettiner-Chef Alexander Markgraf von Meißen (59))

- I have moved both Alexander and Albert to the title of Margrave. I don't know how to go about reediting their introduction paragraph or some of the information to make it clear that there are two conflicting claims; if anyone could, please do so. Also Template:Saxon Royal Family should be updated to reflect two conflicting claims like Italy and Russia. Line of succession to the former Saxon thrones should be updated, too. --The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 00:16, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
Maronite or Latin-rite?
[edit]Is he a Maronite or a Latin-rite Catholic? 37.144.53.146 (talk) 03:47, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- He's president "Ordensherr" ([1]) of the St. Heinrichs Orden. So he is a Latin-rite Catholic. -- LeoDavid (talk) 07:19, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

TITLE
[edit]The Title of Margrave of Meissen is disputed by his second cousin, Rudiger. He should be in Wikipedia: Alexander, Prince of Saxe-Gessaphe; Prince Alexander of Saxe-Gessaphe or Alexander von Saxe-Gessaphe. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MonarchyLover (talk • contribs) 18:03, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Requested move 15 May 2022
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. Deadlock between correct name and common name. (non-admin closure) — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 17:47, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
Alexander, Prince of Saxony → Alexander, Prince of Saxe-Gessaphe – This seems to be his legal name per the sources in his article. The current title doesn't seem to be something he's known as. 67.173.23.66 (talk) 22:32, 15 May 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. 何をしましたか?那晚安啦。 13:26, 24 May 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 17:29, 31 May 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. >>> Extorc.talk 16:12, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
