The last sentence concerns me....
'He is one of the most popular figures in the state and is considered as a role model to many Sikkimese and Indians'.
It implies that Sikkimese and Indians are mutually exclusive.
It could be re-worded to:
'He is one of the most popular figures in the state and is considered as a role model to many Sikkimese as well of people from other states of India'.

Baichung Bhutia → Bhaichung Bhutia — There are more Google hits for "Bhaichung Bhutia" and his club http://www.mohunbaganclub.com/features_view.php?id=MzM= lists him as Bhaichung Spiderone (talk) 15:53, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Neutral - I've only ever seen him referred to as "Baichung Bhutia", and the Google test isn't really that conclusive, IMO. – PeeJay 17:21, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Neutral - : FIFA lists him as Baichung [2] but I see both names are in use in various places. Camw (talk) 01:29, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Bhutia play as goalkeeper
[edit]I find an interested fact that Baichung Bhutia ever play as a goalkeeper for India national football team. In 1996 AFC Asian Cup qualification Group 4 at Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, India play against Indonesia on 4 March 1996 which resulted India heavy lost 1-7. At this match India first goalkeeper injured in 30 minutes and replaced by second goalkeeper. Later the second goalkeeper was sent off on 41 minutes (when Indonesia lead 2-1) after make a nasty challenge against Indonesian striker and Indonesia has given a penalty. India goal keeper must be substituted but the coach only brought 2 goalkeeper at their squad. So other player must be temporarily as a goal keeper for India, and the coach order Bhutia as a goal keeper. Bhutia unable to save the penalty and Indonesia scores other 4 goal to comfortable win 7-1. Indonesia through to play in AFC Asian Cup 1996 and India failed. Actually I see this match on live TV coverage.08:31, 25 December 2010 (UTC)_Annas_ (talk) http://www.rsssf.com/tablesi/indo-intres9600.html
International goals
[edit]Is there a source for his international goals? Currently its listed as 43, but having a look at national-football-teams.com, he's listed as having 18 goals. That's with a lot of missing data. Having checked the scorers for all those missing data on nft, he would have an extra 11 goals (including a non-FIFA recognized match) making his total 29. That's quite far from the listed 43. Banana Fingers (talk) 14:58, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
As u said 18 goals but thats all came in 2001-2011.
i.e 18 goals in 51 matches the data i have is from 1995-1999, 25 goals in 42 caps
means 25+18=43 goals check this out:

- RSSSF file for Baichung's goals: here. It says "scored at least 30 goals", which means there could be more. Unless you could point out the exact matches where he as scored more that aren't listed in that RSSSF file, then he only has 30 goals. Having said that, they list I.M. Vijayan as having scored more than Baichung with "at least 40 goals", here. Banana Fingers (talk) 10:14, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Change the page name to Bhaichung
[edit]Hi everyone,
I am new Wikipedia user so I am not getting any option to 'Move' the page.
Bhaichung Butia real name is as stated earlier is 'Bhaichung'. This page wrongly states his name as 'Baichung'.
You can check out his official Twitter handle to confirm the name at [1] His news on Telegraph for name confirmation. [2] Please note his school has the right name in it. Check it. [3]
It will be great if anyone of you could change the page name to 'Bhaichung'.
