"the Australian Government had been pressing MacArthur", was it the need for US naval and logistics support that was stopping Australia conducting these operations on its own or were there other factors at play?
- The sources focus on MacArthur simply not including I Corps in his various offensives despite it forming part of his command (the underlying issue about Australia probably not being able to undertake independent operations of this scale isn't addressed, probably as it's a complex one given that by 1944 the Australian military had been configured to be dependent on US logistics and how it was used was governed by decisions on grand strategy made in Washington and London).
