SriLankan Flights

[edit]

UL have no current plans to resume flights to Coimbatore. When originally suspended last year, they said they would review the situation this year and decide on resumption. Presumably, they did just that, and decided against resumption - because these flights do not operate anymore. That is not to say they won't resume at some point in the future. If and when that happens, the airline will make an announcement, including a definite start date and antry in offical schedules. When that happens, feel free to add to this article. Until then, it's just speculation/want. And Wikipedia is not a wishlist nor is it a crystal ball. Thanks. Jasepl (talk) 16:29, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok Done. I have removed them. Saravanaprabhuk (talk) 11:46, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No there is a plan in resuming flight to Colombo through srilanlan airlines. There is also flights from cjb to sin through Singapore airlines. The recent edit is wrong. I could not change it as it states the site is protected to prevent vandalism. Please change it. Dhiren S (talk) 15:11, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I am Dhiren, I said right there are flights from Coimbatore to Colombo. You guys have blocked me from editing. U guys don't even think before doing such things. Sorry Wikipedia if I have said any thing wrong Linudhiren (talk) 10:44, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Some wrong informations in "Coimbatore Airport" article

[edit]

I will provide you some details about the Coimbatore Airport. Please modify it in order to stop spreading wrong information about the airport.

In the Introduction: "It is located along Peelamedu and Nillambur, with passenger entry at Nillambur and cargo entry at Peelamedu" is wrong information - Currently there is only a single entrance at Peelamedu(Sitra junction) for both Passenger and Cargo. In the section "Structure": "The old terminal at Pellamedu is used for cargo at-present, while the new passenger terminal complex at Nillambur is used for passenger operations. The passenger terminal complex consists of the domestic and international terminals interconnected by a link building, which houses administrative offices and a restaurant. Although the complex is one continuous structure. The first part to be built was the international terminal which had two aerobridges followed by the domestic terminal with three aerobridges in Nillambur. The old terminal at Pellamedu is used exclusively for cargo." - Nothing is true in the above paragraph. Actually there are three structures, one exclusively for cargo, one for arrival(old structure opened in 1987, commonly known as peelamedu airport) and one for departure(expanded from the old terminal, as in Reference 3. There is nothing to speak about Neelambur(correct spelling, not Nillambur), the North-East part of the runway ends there. No other airport structure exist in Neelambur. Most important thing is NO Aerobridges exist till date. Two aerobridges are under construction(As in reference 3, one in arrival and one in departure terminal.

In the Section Transportation: Completely wrong information - As I said there is only a single entrance for the Airport(from Sitra junction) at Avinashi road. There is no link for the airport from L&T byepass road.

Additional Information (New expansion plan to end in 2014): There is a plan approved by the state government to expand the airport in the South of existing airport to an area of 606 hectares from current space. New terminal buildings will be constructed on the other side(south) of the runway. There is no official release about the components that are up to come in this new expansion. Currently land acquisition progress is going on.

I am ready to help you by providing informations about Coimbatore International Airport. Please make these changes. A very thanks in advance.

Could you please provide some reference(s) for the same? Would be glad to add them. Abhishek Talk to me 15:04, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The following reference gives us a proof that, the existing terminal(opened 25 years ago) have been expanded and opened in June 2010. It also says that, old structure is for departure and new expanded part for arrival, it is combined Domestic and International. There is no separate terminals for Domestic and International. http://www.hindu.com/2010/05/29/stories/2010052952340400.htm The following reference provides information about the expansion of airport with new terminals for which land acquisition process has been started recently. This reference will prove that there is no airport structure existing in Neelambur village or along the L&T bye-pass right now. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2010-11-15/chennai/28258187_1_devanahalli-airport-intl-airport-aai If you need any picture proof, i will provide you. International Airport

[edit]

What is the point when some airport is defined as International Airport? Airports Authority of India website still refers CJB as "Civil Aerodrome, Coimbatore". except for this Wikipedia article I don't see anywhere where Coimbatore Airport has been renamed as "Coimbatore International Airport". Though Tiruchi and Madurai has international connections they are all still identified as 'airports' by aai website. I seek the name not be changed to International until a consensus is arrived. rams81 (talk) 18:46, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please tell me the difference between domestic and international airport, and reason why should we not call coimbatore airport as coimbatore international airport. If you think we should call it as per some website we should call it as "Civil Aerodrome, Coimbatore" and not even Coimbatore Airport. muthu veerappan (talk) 06:24, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This article is not named as "Coimbatore International Airport" since neither Airports Authority of India, which manages the airport nor the Ministry of Civil Aviation has rechristened it so. However, almost all media and local convention calls it as 'Coimbatore Airport'. Hence the name. If you could provide some reliable references where the airport is referred as "Coimbatore International Airport" we can consider the suggestion. rams81 (talk) 01:17, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The airport is officially known as Coimbatore Airport, even the signage at the airport say that. Unless it is called Coimbatore Intl Airport in ANY RS, it should be kept as Coim Airport. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 13:35, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A general misconception among most editors here is that if an airport has international in it's name, then it is an international airport, which is absolutely wrong. An airport is considered international if it has many international flights including long haul flights, a long runway and terminal capable of handling huge aircraft. Some examples of international airports without the international tag in their title: London Heathrow Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, etc. Though Coimbatore has international flights, it is a restricted international airport or what is also called customs airport as the international flights are only to short haul destinations.  Abhishek  Talk 14:39, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the airport is officially "International Airport" should we not change the article title to Coimbatore International Airport? rams81 (talk) 19:31, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nopes. Even if it is international, we have to retain the title. Read my explanation above. As per IATA standards, this airport does not qualify to be international. Looks like the union government under pressure from the DMK had just given the airport "international" status, when it barely even qualifies for it.  Abhishek  Talk 04:35, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
rams, can you provide a source verifying this? Snoozlepet (talk) 05:58, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Who ever says that Coimbatore airport is a customs airport, note that it is no more a customs airport, it was declared as International airport on Oct 4th 2012, by PM of India, hence the article must be renamed and edited rsvsk86 (talk)
According to The Airport Authority of India's website, the airport is still called "Coimbatore Airport" along with the other four granted international status (except for Varanasi Airport). Snoozlepet (talk) 05:37, 18 October 2012 (UTC)S[reply]

Why bring in IATA standards when GOI has granted CBE airport international status? And what exactly DMK has to do with it? Its a name. VtTN (talk) 07:03, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The airport handles international flight and now given international status by GOI. People should accept it rather that speculating who is behind it and how the got it... VtTN (talk) 07:13, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

a lot of airports handles domestic and internationals but their official names are not international like London Heathrow, Gatwick, Singapore, Brussels, etc. 68.113.122.83 (talk) 00:37, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Either the article name must be changed or articles of other international airports in India must be edited without international tag — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.178.160.115 (talk) 22:43, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As explained, the airport may have granted international status but the airport has not been renamed yet....as the Airports Authority of India's official website is still called Coimbatore Airport. If there is a source saying that the airport has been officially renamed then change it, if it is not then leave it be. Many airports that have "international" status are not called "International Airport (i.e. Heathrow, Singapore, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Milan, etc.) Snoozlepet (talk) 03:57, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 28 October 2012

[edit]

Please change the name of Airport to Coimbatore International Airport both in main heading and in the text. International status has been accorded by Govt of India recently which is mentioned in the text itself. Thank you in advance Nrchandran2604 (talk) 02:14, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The airport is international, but the name remains the same. There has been no rename of the airport's name. There is no hard and fast rule that if an airport is international, the word "international" has to be in the name. If there is a rename of the airport, then the change could be made, but as of now, no.  Abhishek  Talk 03:31, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CBE official naming by AAI

[edit]

It is time that the heading shall be renamed to Coimbatore International Airport. Also, Tiruchirapalli airport which was declared international along with Coimbatore has been renamed as Tiruchirapalli International Airport -- Magentic Manifestations (talk)

The official display boards use the name "Coimbatore International Airport"
Being international does not necessarily mean that it should have the "international" tag in its name. Provide some sources that the airport has been renamed to Coimbatore International. Images can't really be sources. Abhishek  Talk 08:05, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On Feb 2 2013, AAI updated Coimbatore page as Coimbatore International Airport.Snaveen89 (talk) 14:10, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@LeoFrank: I have re-added the last IP edit [2]. Flight 6E-882 seems to be a direct flight with a stop at MAA according to the airline's flight status webpage. Maybe we can discuss the changes here? All the best.--Jetstreamer Talk 13:20, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mugun.cjb, here is where you discuss your proposed changes and discuss your sources. —valereee (talk) 15:09, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: why you have banned me? I only have updated the Coimbatore airport page in the last 10 days with some updated information about the airport as given below..

1. the airport was expanded at a cost of ₹780 million (US$11 million) with 9 parking bays [9] and Instrument Landing System (ILS).[10] In 2010, new domestic and international divisions were added to the already existing common terminal.

2. The airport authority of India (AAI) has proposed to construct a new domestic departure terminal building with swankier interiors on the eastern side of the campus. The terminal would be constructed in an area of 10,000 sq ft with a cost of around Rs 125 crore.[12] Tender process for Environment clearance has started for the construction of new Terminal Building and associated works, Construction of New ATC Tower cum Technical Block and Admin Block.[13]

But, still the airport page is outdated by 2 years. You editors know nothing about the airport, but want to have all control over it.
