Talk:List of Ranma ½ locations
Title
[edit]To fit naming conventions, this should be moved to "List of Ranma 1/2 locations". --Masamage 06:43, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the main article is at Ranma ½ and the minor characters page is titled Ranma ½ minor characters. However, having a nonstandard character would introduce a potential problem, so I'll probably change it soon enough. NeoChaosX [talk | contribs] 06:48, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, I didn't mean the nonstandard character--redirects will take care of that easily enough. I mean that I think location (and character) articles are usually named "List of..." That may just be common practice, though, rather than an actual guideline. --Masamage 07:05, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit]The Nǚjiézú are not said to be matriarchal in the manga. We do not see their government structure. There really is no reason to assume that they are matriarchal, none of the amazons we see are part of there government (Shampoo, Cologne, Mousse, Shampoo's dad). Also them not having contact with the rest of the world, at least in the manga, is untrue. They have telephones, printing press, Shampoo had no trouble dealing with modern technology, and they make trips to other villages/cities like Pink and Link's village. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.155.80.53 (talk) 16:21, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Grouping/expansion of Furinkan/more locations
[edit]Not all the locations appear in all the mediums, so perhaps they could be grouped along the same lines as minor characters and items, i.e. manga/anime, anime only, manga only. I'm not familiar enough with the whole series to group all of them.
Also, the specific locations in Furinkan that are shown, e.g. Tendo Dojo, Nekohanten, etc., could be expanded further to each get their subsections. There are also several other locations outside of Furinkan that are visited, e.g. the movie locations, that could be added too. --BrokenSphere 18:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'm okay with breaking them up in that fashion, but at the current moment there is little point as we have so few locations listed, and so far only manga/anime or manga only. If some more are added, I can break them up. Derekloffin 19:25, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
As far as I'm aware I only used springs mentioned in the manga as a basis for the 'Nature of Jusenkyo' section. Dave 19:17, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Asura?
[edit]I just re-checked and it seems like it was never explicitly stated that it was a statue immersed in the spring, it just looked like one, but I clearly remember reading it somewhere. Does anyone know where I could have heard it from? A rumour or a different translation? Dave 01:53, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe whoever wrote that thought it looked like a statue; but if it was, wouldn't Rouge turn into an Asura statue if she was doused in cold water then? --BrokenSphere 01:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Not really, since it would draw upon the archetype rather than an inanimate object. Othervise people would turn into stones and raindrops. I'll try to check with another translation though, but it's possible that I simply read someone else mention it and remembered that it looked like a statue. Odd though, since the memory is quite strong. Dave 04:18, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
In the manga I read the Jusenkyo Guide told Akane that it was a statue that fell in, but it was in english so I am not sure if it is cannon. Xer 20:48, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
The manga translation I have just says Asura, no mention of a statue. Derekloffin 20:58, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
I referred to Vol. 30 of the 2nd Viz ed., p. 35-36; the scanlations I have also do not mention that it's a statue. BrokenSphere 21:00, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've check the Ranma Faq trans (Jap Vol 32, page 33) and my the scanlation I have (not a Viz version), and both just say Asura. Might need a raw to be sure though. Derekloffin 21:04, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- In which translation did you read it Xer? Dave 21:10, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
It was from a copy I read in a Borders book store in Mayaguez, it said an Asura statue fell in, although there were a lot of spelling errors in it, for example it said Ashura instead of Asura and in another page it said Patyhose instead of Pantyhose, although the darn thing was really old, maybe I'll go and check out the Borders in San Juan, since last time I went they had the newer manga issues, but until then could someone tell me the name of the magic mirror Happosai used in season 3? Xer 02:56, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- For some reason I want to say Niiban... but it was never named. Both sub and dub just call it a magic mirror. I double checked and I have no idea where I got Niiban from so I'm thinking it was some fanfiction or another. Derekloffin 06:22, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- I remember seeing it referred to as 'Nanban mirror' but as Derek said, it may be completely made up, much like the mother of the Tendo daughters being called Kimiko, or Nabiki financing her family. It's also not impossible that I saw the 'Asura' reference on some 'Jusenkyo springs' list long ago. It's scary how most of us eventually take lies as gospel if repeated frequently enough. :\
- Btw: While I'm at it I might compliment 'Brokensphere' for his comprehensive work with this section. Also would anyone like to help in filling in the same type of chapter references I used in the Ryoga section for the other characters? It takes quite some time.Dave 10:45, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to do it, but my laptop is going haywire on me and my time is very limited, the best I can do is add more locations to this page if thats alright, sorry guys... Xer 22:33, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- You were the one adding them? Sorry about that then. In any case, if anyone is interested in helping out, the quickest way would be to simply copy the format used at the Ryoga profile (including adding the 'auto-list' command near the end) and insert chapter references to everything that's already mentioned at other pages (most quickly the ones where specific stories are explicitly mentioned). The text in the Japanese edition (vol. 32, pg. 33) only mentions Asura drowning, it says nothing of a statue. If you need it for translations, Akane's text is: 四千年前 阿修羅が 溺れた泉が あるんだって。 (no scanner unfortunately, but here's a quick snap of the panel if you want to compare the characters to be sure[1]). Oh and for the magic mirror, "Nanban Mirror" probably just comes from the spoken dialogue in Japanese track. They speak the words "nanban mira-" but the translation in the subs is still just "magic mirror." I can only guess they call it "nanban" because of it being an import once possessed by a European (Alexander the Great) but it is really, as I said, just a loose guess on my part. --kudsy 05:41, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. Thanks for the heads-up. Going by the above, it seems like it's been incorrectly translated in certain editions and then turned into a fanon concept, which botched up my memory of the reference. Dave 11:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
