File:Jeong Do-jeon.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

[edit]
An image used in this article, File:Jeong Do-jeon.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

To take part in any discussion, or to review a more detailed deletion rationale please visit the relevant image page (File:Jeong Do-jeon.jpg) This is Bot placed notification, another user has nominated/tagged the image --CommonsNotificationBot (talk) 17:20, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jeong Do-jeonChŏng To-jŏn – Per WP:NCKO, McCune–Reischauer romanization should be used for pre-1945 Korean names. According to Google NGram Viewer, use of Jeong Do-jeon spiked around 2006, but cumulatively, Chong Tojon and Chong To-jon have been in much greater use. English academic articles on Korean history still predominantly use McCune-Reischauer romanization, and Chŏng Tojŏn and Chŏng To-jŏn enjoy greater currency. Per WP:NCKO, I suggest the hyphenated given name, Chŏng To-jŏn. This move request is in keeping with the move request for Jeong Mong-ju. Motjustescribe (talk) 02:19, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support Note that @Roman Spinner's opposition comes in context of this move: Talk:Kwansŏ and this active discussion Talk:Jeong Mong-ju#Requested move 4 July 2024. The first discussion their opposition was strongly overruled because guidelines in WP:NCKO are clear at the moment. That said, they have a window for changing NCKO altogether; I don't understand why they don't just make a clean proposal once instead of doing this... At this point, given that they've been overruled strongly once, local precedent is an even less convincing argument. Please reconsider doing this over and over; I'll be here each time with the same response. 211.43.120.242 (talk) 07:31, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Per arguments made by nom, WP:NCKO clearly states that M-R romanization should be used for pre-1945 historical figures such as Chŏng To-jŏn. Regarding diacritics for M-R, a April 2024 RFC has made it clear that "There is a strong consensus to amend this naming convention to allow for the use of special characters in article titles using McCune–Reischauer romanization, but only if they are a part of the WP:COMMONNAME of the article topic." ⁂CountHacker (talk) 21:27, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Was Chong To-jon Chief State Councillor?

[edit]

The Yeonguijeong article says the position was created in 1400. If so, how was Chong Chief State Councilor from 1392 to 1398? Was he in an equivalent position of a different name? -- 00101984hjw (talk) 17:48, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
