Requested move 16 February 2016

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved; the artist's own preference in this case appears to outweigh the usual convention of how to render modern Japanese names, according to editors participating. (non-admin closure) Dicklyon (talk) 01:23, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kumi KodaKoda Kumi – As per MOS:IDENTITY and MOS:JA, and the arguments used during the recent move of Utada Hikaru. The artist herself uses the order "Koda Kumi" consistently, and English news sources are split between "Koda Kumi" and "Kumi Koda" (The Straits Times, Channel News Asia, Popdust and RocketNews24 use "Koda Kumi", while The Japan Times and The Verge use "Kumi Koda", and Japan Today doesn't chose either way). Google Scholar numbers are fairly matched, but many of the "Kumi Koda" entries aren't actually about the singer, but about her Wikipedia articles. Prosperosity (talk) 05:55, 16 February 2016 (UTC) --Relisted.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:24, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes! The English language bio and material released by Avex to promote her Singapore concert in English are consistent in their usage, as well as published media in English relating to the event (2 3 4 5 6 7). Her Singapore concert was her first overseas performance in an English speaking country in around ten years, making it the best event to judge how the artist wants her name depicted in English. --Prosperosity (talk) 02:42, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So what, this is our encylopedia not the artist's. we have our own rules and MOS. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:37, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – The evidence provided, along with the nature of MOS:JA, convince me that such a change should be had. There should be not great opposition to using the native Japanese order, when it is common, as no one complains about the use of the same order with Korean or Chinese names. RGloucester 15:17, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per MOS:IDENTITY, WP:ABOUTSELF, and the MOS:JA rule on which the successful RM of Hikaru Utada back to Utada Hikaru relied. There's enough evidence here that Koda Kumi is this person's self-professed name in Latin-alphabet writing, including in English in particular. Her tour was even branded in English "KODA KUMI ASIA LIVE 2015". As in the Utada case, these things can change over time and we have to give more weight to more current sources and to those direct from the subject and agents thereof.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  10:07, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image

[edit]

Could anyone seriously identify this person via this image? An imageless infobox would be better than this—except that there are actually images in the body of the article that show her face. Curly Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 01:32, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done replaced with her 2005 picture that was in her infobox some years ago and is still available in Commons. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 02:00, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment

[edit]
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Koda Kumi/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

This article no longer meets the good article criteria. Referencing starts to dissolve starting from the "2010–2011: Tenth anniversary" section. About half of that section, as well as half of "2011–2012: Dejavu, Japonesque, marriage and motherhood", is unsourced. "2013–2016: Bon Voyage and Walk of My Life" is completed unsourced. References from these points also come from undesirable websites, including CDJapan and TokyoHive. The quality of the writing in the article also begins to deteriorate from her career since 2010; its style and format also suffers (see the Manual of Style). I will allow a grace period of one week for improvements to this article. If concerns are not addressed by the end of that week, this article will be delisted. xplicit 06:14, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
