Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedy deleted as having no substantive content, because... (It would be my dream and true that it is probably true (Please!) --Funbat03 (talk) 04:46, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This series has now completely aired, so the support for deletion is no longer valid. Essey (talk) 16:48, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support deletion

[edit]

Series 5 has just started filming; there is not enough information to make a useful article. Having this page here will just encourage people to make harmful edits, such as redirecting it the List of Merlin episodes which in the past has cause a template loop of dizzying proportions.

All these summaries are copypaste as does series 4??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.3.225.181 (talk) 12:47, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

this was brought up before and someone pasted a link to bbc site that said descrption etc can be copy with there contesent so is allowedAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 12:53, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

These summaries are in breach of Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Copy-paste. I recommend that someone with better knowledge of the episodes rewrite the summaries either completely or by using the current content as a scaffold and rewording it. MisterShiney 19:21, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

there not, bbc give explicit permission to copy them it be discussed beforeAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 09:16, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • An encyclopedia cannot have summaries that ask questions. What would be the point? Does the Encyclopedia Brittancia contain questions? These summaries are intended for TV guides and not for an encyclopedia. REVUpminster (talk) 10:31, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
to which i agree but you said they convey wikpedia policies copyright and copy paste which they dnt if your going to come out with policies make sure it the right ones, if you where directing that to e personal i take that as threaten behaviour or being abusive, all you had to say is they should be made mroe enclopedic instead of askign questions but 90% of tv guides on wikipedia are liek that they all require copy editing to be more enclopediacAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 15:06, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"As a general rule, do not copy and paste text from other sources. This includes websites of the charity or non-profit organizations, educational sources and all sources without a copyright notice. If a work does not have a copyright notice, assume it to be under copyright-protection" from: Wikipedia:Copy-paste. No one has yet to provide a reference from the BBC site to say that they can be copy/pasted. REVUpminster is correct that the summaries as they exist give the impression of a TV guide Which Wikipedia is not. These are also the correct policies we are quoting. So even if they arnt in breach of copyright, they still need to be changed. Come on people. Lets not be lazy and make this article something to be proud of. It doesnt take much to rewrite/reword summaries (carefully, so as not to be in breach of Copyright) so they sound less like a TV guide. The summaries are taken from the BBC iPlayer site, which is an on demand service with TV GUIDE SUMMARIES! Which is not suitable for Wikipedia. I dont know where you have your information User:Andrewcrawford but 90% of episode summaries are not copy/pasted from external sites but are tirelessly worked over by other editors. If a search of the summary/plot is found to be linked word for word to another site, then it is rewritten. Even if that is the case (which it's not) then you should set an example and edit this page accordingly, and if you fancy it then move on to other TV series pages. If you are not able to make these edits (I notice from your page, you say you are Dyslexic) then pop a notice up here and ask other editors to do so. We are after all here to help each other. • I have written many summaries because the copy paste are often misleading such as episode 60:

Merlin agrees to help a young druid boy, Daegal, although to do so he has to leave Camelot on a dangerous mission - just as the citadel is playing host to the fearsome Sarrum of Amata. He hopes no one will notice his absence, but as the sky darkens so do Merlin's suspicions - is there more to Daegal than meets the eye? And can a man as ruthless as Sartre be trusted?

I would write it something like this:

Merlin agrees to help a young druid boy, Daegal, who's sister is ill and has to secretly leave Camelot, but it is a trap planned by Morganna to kill Merlin. King Arthur is hosting the fearsome Sarrum of Ameta in treaty talks but Queen Guinevere offers Sarrum lands and riches to arranges the assassination of Arthur.

But if I altered it, it would be reverted. REVUpminster (talk) 23:25, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well if it does, we revert it back, if the other editor continues to disagree we seek a Dispute resolution citing the above reasons and warn the other editors about Edit warring. So I say go for it for that and any other edit summaries. If I have time today (I'm a supply teacher), I may make a start from the top on the summaries because even if it is ok and acceptable to copy from the BBC Website, it sounds like a TV guide and it's Tone is not encyclopaedic. MisterShiney 07:26, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

no offense but i aint the one reverting ive already said it better to rewrtie them but consenus was on merlin series 4 sicne bbc allows copying that it was fine i suggest you read on that talk page, i dnt revert improvement only vandelismAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 10:00, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
None taken. :) I wasnt pointing fingers. I was just referring to those who would add the copy/pasted materials and revert any changes that would bring it more in line with policy. I did read the talk page. There was NO REFERENCE to say that it was OK on the BBC site, and I stand by what I (and other editors have said) that in it's current form, it sounds like a TV Guide, which wikipedia is not. So regardless if their site says it is ok, that information does not belong on this page as it is not encyclopaedic but TV Guide in nature. MisterShiney 22:00, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see an editor has addressed this. Good work. Glad we could all work together to get the job done! :) MisterShiney 09:53, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

i am just wondering why no one has put series 6 in folowing season, the producers have said they will be doing more epsiode and a movie they orignal intented series 5 to be the last but the poplourity of it has meant there goign to take it beyond it original intended run seaosn 4 was meant to be 10 epsiode but extended mid production because it got high demand. just want to know why it not there it coudl be removed later if they do finish on 5 series but nto wanting to go againsta possible consesnsus as i have dropped out of merlin articles after series 3 been busy with otuher thingsAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 15:11, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Colour contrast problems

[edit]

It seems that this article is using colours in the infobox which don't satisfy Wikipedia's accessibility guidelines. The contrast between the foreground colour and the background colour is low, which means that it may be difficult or impossible for people with visual impairments to read it.

To correct this problem, a group of editors have decided to remove support for invalid colours from Template:Infobox television season and other television season templates after 1 September 2015. If you would still like to use custom colours for the infobox and episode list in this article after that date, please ensure that the colours meet the WCAG AAA standard.

To test whether a colour combination is AAA-compliant you can use Snook's colour contrast tool. If your background colour is dark, then please test it against a foreground colour of "FFFFFF" (white). If it is light, please test it against a foreground colour of "000000" (black). The tool needs to say "YES" in the box for "WCAG 2 AAA Compliant" when you input the foreground and the background colour. You can generally make your colour compliant by adjusting the "Value (%)" fader in the middle box.

Please be sure to change the invalid colour in every place that it appears, including the infobox, the episode list, and the series overview table. If you have any questions about this, please ask on Template talk:Infobox television season. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:30, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
