Conclusion of discussion

[edit]

The conclusion of the below preserved discussion was that rather than making a new, nearly parallel article, a rewrite was in order to increase clarity. This was done by Cursive, and the article was much better. The rewrite may be found in the edit history. The time and date of the rewrite was 10:48 20 August, 2005 ("cleanup/clarification").

Merging from another article

[edit]

This doesn't make any sense to be in the 2006 World Cup Qualifying Oceania article. It should be merged with the Oceania Nations Cup article. If users of WP deem this necessary to this article, provide a link instead. IanManka 04:47, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If you read the article, the group stages of the world cup qualifying tournament doubled as the group stages of the oceania nations cup - the only difference being the two-legged final for the oceania nations cup did not count in the world cup qualifying. It should not be merged with the Oceania nations cup article because that page gives the details of the 2004 Oceania Nations Cup tournament. Given that magnitude of overlap between the 2004 Oceania Nations Cup and the world cup qualifying, it does makes sense to keep them together. It doesn't make sense to merge the 2004 OFC nations cup information with general information about the Oceania nations cup. Also, Oceania Nations Cup 2004 redirects there. If we wanted to make a new non-redirected page there, it would only mean needless duplication. Cursive 05:38, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sorry. I misunderstood -- when I read the part that explained the doubling, I misunderstood. Maybe I was just naive, but maybe a minor rewrite to make it more clear? Or maybe something that restates what was said in the introduction of this page put with the section? I didn't make a connection from the beginning to the end. I thought that the final was just thrown in there. Any thoughts about this? IanManka 05:33, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I think though, to reduce confusion, that a separate page be created for the matches of the Nations Cup, even though it does overlap with 2006 qualifying. It could be noted at the introduction or along with the first/second stage that it doubled with the Nations Cup, with a redirect to the page with the results, not unlike Football World Cup 2006 (qualification): "Full details of prior group stages, along with league tables are available at Football World Cup 2006 - Oceania Qualification Groups." I think this would cause less confusion, although another page would have to be created, it would be much less complex. IanManka 05:43, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
      • Furthermore, one who is navigating through WP searching for qualification to the World Cup using the template at the bottom of the qualification pages might be confused when they see "(not part of World Cup)" (much like I was). Not part of World Cup? Why should it be in the World Cup Qualification article? IanManka 14:38, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! Much better! Thanks, Cursive! What do I do now with the merge proposal, now that the point is moot, and a merge no longer necessary? IanManka 15:00, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Eh, not sure, I would think that removing the tags would be enough, anyone who was really interested would be able to see this discussion on this talk page I think. I'll add something to the talk page of the qualification page pointing to here. Cursive 15:04, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:OFCcup.gif

[edit]

Image:OFCcup.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
