Orphaned references in Paul Mullin (footballer, born 1994)
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Paul Mullin (footballer, born 1994)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

- Paul Mullin (footballer, born 1994) → Paul Mullin
- Paul Mullin (footballer, born 1974) → Paul Mullin (Accrington Stanley footballer)
- Paul Mullin → Paul Mullin (disambiguation)
– Clear primary topic by usage (75x pageviews, with the less viewed one mirroring this one) and significance (multiple individual awards vs. none, though they are Accrington Stanley's all-time top scorer). Suggest considering moving that one too, because association with a team may be more pertinent to readers than year of birth, but no strong feeling as it's not the most consistent. Dab perhaps useful to keep to list Paul Mullens. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 20:16, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- Neutral 1, oppose 2, per WP:NCSP#Association football (soccer). 162 etc. (talk) 21:46, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose - no PRIMARYTOPIC, and anyway the proposed alternative moves show deep ignorance. GiantSnowman 15:17, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- @GiantSnowman: Can I ask you to take a second look here, or at least give a bit of explanation? Regarding only the primary topic question, the Wrexham player is the recipient of some honors and appears in popular culture (both of which contribute to WP:PT2 when compared to the other player), and the pageview chart shows an extreme disparity for WP:PT1 by a factor of 7,300% (and though I didn't phrase it the most clearly above, when you use logarithmic mode you can see the ASFC player's pageviews—this page averages less than 10 views/day—rise and fall in parallel with the more famous one's. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 17:12, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- Pageviews are irrelevant. An active player is always going to get more page views than a retired player. GiantSnowman 17:14, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- But the other page averages single digits ... and is a level five–seven player ... versus a level three player with accolades and TV fame ... oh well. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 17:26, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose - the Wrexham player may be the primary topic if he was playing in the Premier League which have more fans recognising this name but in League 2, the popularity differs significantly. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:28, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. No primary topic and YOB is standard disambiguation for footballers. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:30, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved. The 1994 Mullin is the primary topic per this discussion. (closed by non-admin page mover) Frost 13:55, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
Paul Mullin (footballer, born 1994) → Paul Mullin – After featuring as a prominant part of the widely viewed "Welcome to Wrexham" series and now having featured as a cameo character in a $200mil film, it is clear that Paul Mullin is a pretty well recognised celebrity. In my opinion, this means that this Paul Mullin should definetly deserve primary status over a non-league footballer who may have done well in the lower levels, but definetly lacks enough relevance to force this Paul Mullin into having to have a disambiguation. - Oppose - this is a pure case of RECENTism. Give it 20 years when there's another Paul Mullin... GiantSnowman 18:27, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Surely we cross that bridge only when we come to it? This Paul Mullin has already played at a higher level than the other one ever did, and his status as the star player of such a high-profile Wrexham team must give him the edge. – PeeJay 14:01, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with you. According to this editor, perhaps we should rename the Cristiano Ronaldo article to Cristiano Ronaldo (footballer, born 1985) just incase of the rare event that an even better player with the same name emerges in two decades. Ridiculous! WikiHmmmm... (talk) 15:45, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
