- Great work! I especially like the well-documented instructions for filling in the template. Johntex\talk 20:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I do too... ;). I'd really appreciate some help in adding these to all of the bowl pages. USA Today recently had an article with the bowl payouts, so I can add those, but needless to say, this is too big of a job for just one person. Anyone who has a bit of free time is welcome to help. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 00:23, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
You can help!
[edit]Thanks for all who helped in adding this template to current bowl games. Now, we have defunct bowl games yet to do. Unless it is connected to a specific conference, no all-star games should have this template. If you find any all-star games in the following list, please remove them. Once you have completed adding this template to the following articles, please remove them from the list.
- Alamo Bowl (1947)
- Blue-Gray Football Classic
- Camellia Bowl
- Cherry Bowl
- Delta Bowl
- Dixie Bowl
- Dixie Classic (bowl game)

Various Questions
[edit]- What level of sponsorship should be added to the infobox? Only sponsors with naming rights? The manual isn't clear as to which level to use.
- "2006 Matchup" -- should this read "2007" for games in January? It is currently inconsistent with what the manual says to use for the "years" variable.
- It's an awesome infobox! X96lee15 04:38, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm confused as to your first question, and your second question has been corrected in the template. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 07:20, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
New version of this template
[edit]A new version of this template is up for review at User:Nmajdan/Collegebowl. Most fields remain the same but there are more optional fields. The biggest different is the new on has better Wiki-markup and also adds fields for the previous year's bowl game and the next bowl game. Please let me know what you think. If it is decided to switch, it should not take much effort to update the articles with the template to the new format. Another ongoing discussion here.--NMajdan•talk 14:55, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, the template has been updated and I'm currently working on updating all the articles with the new table. The main change is converting 'this_years_matchup' to 'next_matchup_teams' along with the other new fields. One issue I've came across. In the previous matchup, the score wikilinks to the specific game article. In the next matchup, the date wikilinks to the specific game article. It gets this from the year specified and {{PAGENAME}}. Well, on the article that are more than just the name of the bowl game (i.e. Rose Bowl Game and Cotton Bowl (game)), the links to the specific game get messed up. So instead of linking to 2007 Rose Bowl, they link to 2007 Rose Bowl Game or 2007 Cotton Bowl (game). What I've done to get around this is just create a redirect to the appropriate articles. Let me know if you notice any other issues.--NMajdan•talk 17:47, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Looks great, thanks for your help! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 18:12, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, all articles that currently link to the revised template have been updated.--NMajdan•talk 19:00, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
One fix would be nice...
[edit]Not bad at all. There is one fix that would be nice, although it would be somewhat complicated to implement.
The current name of the top NCAA football division is Division I FBS, not Division I-A. More important, the name of the top division has changed several times. The names of the season articles vary according to the year (where "XXXX" is the year):
- Pre-1978: "XXXX college football season"
- 1978-2005: "XXXX NCAA Division I-A football season"
- 2006-present: "XXXX NCAA Division I FBS football season"
Think someone might see if this change is feasible? — Dale Arnett (talk) 16:32, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
One more fix needed
[edit]I just realized that one more fix is needed.
At least two of the "bowl games" that use this infobox—actually HBCU classics—don't involve a Division I FBS team at all:
- The Bayou Classic features Grambling and Southern, both Division I FCS schools.
- The Joe Turner Classic features Savannah State, also an FCS school, although the opponent is not constant.
Think someone can fix the template so that the "season" links to the FCS season for the aforementioned games? I think the best way would be an "fcs" field—"y" would cause a pipe to the FCS season article, while no entry would result in the standard I-A/FBS season link. Correct links for these games would be:
- Pre-1978: "XXXX college football season"
- 1978–2005: "XXXX NCAA Division I-AA football season"
- 2006–present: "XXXX NCAA Division I FCS football season"
Thanks... — Dale Arnett (talk) 19:35, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
