small

[edit]

@Primefac: the small parameter was deprecated several years ago, so it doesn't do anything anymore. We are gradually removing this parameter from each banner template. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:45, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It was? Primefac (talk) 12:17, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Module talk:WikiProject banner/Archive 13#Small — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:19, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so this might be a dumb question (because I'm genuinely not trying to be a twat about this) but aren't those two different things? Like... if I changed the name of the parameter here to |condensed= or similar, would it still really be a "small" parameter? I thought the small parameter you are discussing at the module talk was actually part of the banner shell itself, not the text input by the end users. Sorry if I'm being unclear! I removed the parameter in 2020 but I obviously missed the other part which WOSlinker removed the other day. So yes technically the small parameter was still having an effect, but only a minor part of its original behaviour. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:08, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I thought that was the case! We added in some extra functionality with that value but in taking a look through uses I'm not seeing a ton. If it's in more places than I expected (via tracking cat) I'll start a discussion about potentially re-adding it under a new param name. Thanks for the patience! I wouldn't describe it as extra functionality - it was just to reduce the amount of text because there wasn't enough space for it all on the small version, which doesn't now exist. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:25, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
