Administration?
[edit]Nothing444 is asking to nominate me to Administration. Do you think I'm ready? I have made 1910+ edits (counting deleted ones. I have 1860+ edits without the deleted ones). I have been editing at wikipedia for 1 month and 2 days. And if I do decide for him to nominate me, would you support me? I would like your opinion ASAP.--RyRy5 talk 23:48, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm asking many people this question. I'm so far deciding not to accept and I will try around the beggining of summer. Also, how did you like my new invite for the WP:SOX?
Hi, and welcome to the Scouting Business! The scouts here to monitor all members of the Red Sox WikiProject. We then add any information that we find to the Scouting Report on the main page. The whole scouting business is used so everyone else can see what and how the WikiProject is doing. If you scout often and if you add numerous reports to the main page, a manager will be sure to promote you.
Looking for somewhere to start or do you have nothing to do? Here are a few things you can do:
- Monitor member's contributions using the members list at the Scouting Office, and if you find a report, add it to the Scouting Report at the main page.
- Invite other people to join the WikiProject by adding {{WP BOSOX INVITE}} on their talk page so that you can monitor more people.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the scouting business in general, feel free to leave a message on the Office's talk page or ask the founder of the scouting business on RyRy5's talk page.

UAA report
[edit]I removed your UAA report of "Danthemanfrom3pointland" because you gave a reason that's invalid on UAA ("confusing"). Ordinarily I would suggest you talk to the user and ask them to change their name, but in this case, I just want you to rethink the situation, because "Danthemanfrom3pointland" isn't confusing or problematic in any other way.
Please take block requests seriously, and use UAA only to request blocks that are necessary under the username policy. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 19:00, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Usernames
[edit]Blocking new editors for their usernames is the bitiest thing WP does. See the instructions at the top of UAA - "No name should be reported here unless it is clearly inappropriate, in violation of the policy." - Confusing usernames are NOT in violation of the username policy, this changed on the 4th of April and is bolded in the instructions at the top of the page you were reporting names on. "For ordinary violations of the username policy, do not use this page. Instead, warn the user and ask them to change their name," - I haven't looked at diffs, but did you ever ask users to consider changing their names? "RFCN is a forum for discussing possible violations when the user has already been notified and had a chance to discuss." this is usually a better venue for discussing usernames. Anyway, with luck I'll be a tiny minority of "no" and you'll get adminship. Kind regards. Dan Beale-Cocks 23:25, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I have tagged Image:Michael_1.JPG as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mike Nagy.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Mike Nagy.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:17, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Major Edit to List of Office Characters (US)
[edit]Hey, I'm going to be reverting your major edits of "List of characters from the Office (US)" to the version right before you started working on it. I'm not sure if your intent was to keep working on it, but you blanked a lot of information and links to the pages of in depth character pages. It seems like the new page would rehash much of the information that is located on those pages. Also, you made those edits April 19th, and it is now April 21st and no new work has seemingly been done on it from your end. I do think that what you're doing with that page is a step in the right direction, but right now the page is much better with the links to all the other characters instead of all the blank space. Speedy deletion of Image:AFDstar.png
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:AFDstar.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:AFDstar.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Gary King (talk) 00:53, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I think I have too many projects on my wiki-plate at this moment to become a leading organizer of this. If I was organizing it, I think I would advertise a lot more (especially on Commons and one some photo-related project pages on Wikipedia) and corral a lot more people first to develop a WikiProject, and wouldn't even have a date set until the project is more mature. If you want advice on this, I can continue to offer that, but my involvement could only be limited. Thanks.--Pharos (talk) 20:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. Re: Tropical cyclones
[edit]Alright, I'll give you some examples. but first I'll give you a word of advice. I saw that you created Hurricane Alma (1996) yesterday, which, no offense, was a major stub. I gave it a massive expansion, so if you are going to create articles please make sure they have at leat as much info as Alma does now, as well as good sourcing. In the tropical cyclone project, we usually merge stubs, so just a heads up. That aside, it'd be good to have an article on Typhoon Wipha (2007). Thanks for trying to help out. We're really short on editors lately, so it'd be good to have another source of quality articles. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 00:16, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Your desire to improve Wikipedia coverage of those topics by creating new articles is admirable. However, the articles have generally been longish stubs. Did you know that yo can create an article in short bits and not have to worry about incomplete articles in the mainspace? You can do that by creating a sandbox. For you, such a sandbox would be at User:Stormtracker94/Sandbox. That way, you can keep future articles in your userspace until you have finished them and made them comprehensive. When done, you can just move them to their mainspace name. That act will also empty your sandbox and (in practical terms) zero out its history, allowing you to create another article.
Thank you for your consideration. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 22:18, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, seeing as you haven't worked on the article significantly, I moved the Fausto article to user space - User:Stormtracker94/Hurricane Fausto (1996). There was too little content to justify keeping it for now, and since it's in user space, you don't have the pressure of any editor being able to see it. Once you fill out the sections (adding a full storm history and impact section), you can contact an administrator to move it back. I look forward to your future contributions! ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:39, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- No problem at all! I personally don't like seeing stub articles that don't get worked on, as the tropical cyclone project has so few. Take your time in working on it, and if you have any problems/questions, feel free to ask me. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:48, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Stormtracker; I wanted to say thank you for supporting my request for adminship, which passed with 100 supports, 0 opposes and 1 neutral. I wanted to get round everybody individually, even though it's considered by some to be spam (which... I suppose it is! but anyway. :)). It means a lot to me that the community has placed its trust in my ability to use the extra buttons, and I only hope I can live up to its expectations. [edit]Need help...
[edit]Hi Stormtracker, I like your new name.
I'm trying to create a non-barnstar award for a competition I'll be running at the WP:AWC in a couple months.
Starting with this:
File:Interlingual Barnstar.pngand using the Gimp, I erased the globe and barnstar, because I wish to reuse the stand:
I need to make the background transparent, but can't figure out how to do this in the Gimp.
Would you please?

Re: GA review
[edit]Hey there. I'd like to, but as you can see, the last TV show article I reviewed didn't have a good turnout, so I'd rather stay away from GANs in subjects that I don't know much about. Also, I wouldn't want you to be accused of canvaasing. I'd glady help out if you need something else, though. Happy editing, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 15:06, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Being a GA reviewer for a while, I know that GANs in that subtopic usually go the fastest, as there is a large interest in them. Again, sorry that I can't review it, but I think you'd get a better review out of someone with knowledge of the subject. Cheers, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 15:12, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Re:Red Sox seasons FLC
[edit]Thanks, you did, however do most of the work. I had to copy and paste text from List of... to it because that was the main reason it failed on its last FLC, and that was the only way it would comply with GFDL. I also hope it passes. Transparent background
[edit]Done Did it on Adobe Photoshop. If you're into graphics, i suggest it. RedThunder 11:19, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Nice. Thank you! The Transhumanist 16:15, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Cool. Better than I can do. By the way, the shadow beneath it has disappeared. Can you add that back in? The Transhumanist 22:31, 17 May 2008 (UTC) 22:29, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- The shading you added was the wrong kind of shadow - it made it look flat as if it was up against a wall. But there are no walls -- it's standing on a surface, and that's all. And we shouldn't be able to see the edges of the image. Can you start over and try again? The shadow needed is the one that is underneath the stand (on the surface it is resting on):
By the way, please don't replace the above image (please create a new one instead). Not a huge deal, it's just that it's part of several messages I've posted, and if the image changes, the messages no longer make any sense. Also, I may find a use for each version. Thank you.
I'm sure the Gimp can do the transparency while retaining the shadow, but I'm also sure you could make sense of that program a lot faster than me, because you are much more familiar with graphic design terminology, etc. The Gimp is free, and I've been told it is extremely powerful. You might want to take a look at it.
The Transhumanist 00:05, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I just found some detailed instructions, and there's a video too. Making the background of a png image transparent. The Transhumanist 00:22, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
It was easier than I thought - only took several clicks in the Gimp. Here it is:
File:Globe stand with transparent background.png
The shadow may need to be adjusted to whatever background is selected for the final version of the award, but I'm not going to worry about that just yet.
The next step is to find a decent globe. The original was ruined by a barnstar being placed on top of it. The Transhumanist 01:03, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see that somebody has a new name. Very nice, although for some reason it makes me think of a soft drink. I mean that in the best way possible, though. Anyway, that's not the reason I'm here. On the article you've posted for GA, I'd suggest that you use the infobox template style that I've used in Branch Wars, Diversity Day, and Pilot (The Office), as it gives a much cleaner look to the page, as well as helping with a few other style elements. Also, I'd suggest finding a few reviews for reception info. I added one, but it needs probably two more. Mastrchf (t/c) 02:10, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Almost done
[edit]File:Blue Puzzle Marble in stand.png
Now all it needs is a passport.
I created this passport front cover, from scratch using the GIMP and Image:Wikipedia logo gold.png.
Since we want to turn it, we need to give it pages, that is, depth, because passports have a thickness to them.
So, one thing we could do is replace the cover of an existing pic of a passport laying down with our new cover. This entails adding to the selected pic an alpha layer, clearing the white background (by selecting and clearing it - in the edit menu), and adding an additional layer for our cover. Then the size, perspective, and rotation of the new cover will need to be changed to fit over the old cover.
Is this something you can do?
The Transhumanist 22:19, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
What about your resolution? On 14 March you undertook a task to become a mediator for the case, but since then, i.e more than two months later, nothing happened (probably because the other party hasn't responded), while the status of case is still "open" just as you put it at the very beginning. On 14 May, i.e. exactly two months later, User:EconomistBR asked me on my talk page to speed things up. He thought that my position is more correct than the other party's, so he started a talk section on the article talk page, but thus far he has not received any responses. I recommended that he referred to you, but he told me that he preferred to wait 4 days so that if nobody responded on the article talk page then he would add back all the changes I requested. I again recommended that he referred to you, but - as you can infer from his response on my talk page - he wouldn't like to do that. So I decided to refer to you and ask for your advice: What do you recommend that we do in our case? How should we procede from here? Eliko (talk) 15:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

friend
[edit]we don't know each other and probably never actually will. Do you want to be my friend?Altenhofen (talk) 03:48, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
1. How is asking to be someones friend when you don't have any in real life innapropriate. 2. I do not personal attack people when they refuse to be my friend, if I did I would be doing it right now. the only reason I did that to LAX was because I was in a bad mood and did something wrong by accident and got my favorite pictures deleted for it. 3. I call threatening to block someone when they ask to be your friend worse 1000x worse than a personal attack. thats like giving someone a 100 dollar bill for no reason and them beating you up for it. you are mean.Altenhofen (talk) 20:49, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
also, I know wikipedia is not a social network. I use it to get away from the horrible cruel world out there. But what do I find on wikipedia? I find an even crueler world were people are mean to my for wanting to be friends. this place is worse than my school, and it's for kid's with behavior issues. you see, I have a disorder called Asperger syndrome. It is just like autism except, except it affects people in a way that they do not listen or behave as well as normal people, ulike autism wich affects people so they do not communicate or learn that well. My teacher Amy tells me I behave 3 times better than a normal kid with asperers, meaning I conquered it. If I had not I would probably have 1000 blocks on my block log, but I don't, that is because I handle problems very, very well for a kid with aspergers. now I hope you are happy, you, LAX, and IMatthew have completely ruined my weekend. I am going to edit something to make me feel better now.Altenhofen (talk) 21:04, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
