Discussion at commons:MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js
[edit]קיפודנחש and users of User:קיפודנחש/cat-a-lot.js might be interested in the discussion at commons:MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js#MediaWiki:Mobile-frontend-return-to-page vs MediaWiki:Returnto.
What prompted that proposal is that enwiki lacks page MediaWiki:Mobile-frontend-return-to-page, which is one of the interface messages used by WP:Cat-a-lot. Without the page MediaWiki:Mobile-frontend-return-to-page, the interface of Cat-a-lot shows a button with "⧼Mobile-frontend-return-to-page⧽" as its text, which is understandable, but not ideal. Other messages used by the gadget (see commons:MediaWiki:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js#L-323--L-336) already exist on enwiki:
- MediaWiki:Cancel
- MediaWiki:Categorytree-not-found
- MediaWiki:Filerevert-submit
- MediaWiki:Ooui-selectfile-placeholder
- MediaWiki:Prefs-files
- MediaWiki:Categories
- MediaWiki:Checkbox-invert
- MediaWiki:Centralnotice-remove
- MediaWiki:Apifeatureusage-warnings

Minor: false
[edit]Per Help:Minor edit:
What not to mark as minor changes
[...]
- Adding or removing references/citations, external links, or categories in an article
User:קיפודנחש, I propose adding minor: false
to the settings on enwiki:
window.catALotPrefs = {editpages: true, minor: false};
Side note: minor: false
is broken in Cat-a-lot, see discussion at commons:MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js#Minor edit unmarking feature not working. —andrybak (talk) 16:46, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- np. do many people use my shim? if so, maybe it would be better to move it to mediawiki space as a gadget. i'm in an awkward position here, and appear as "custodian" for a tool which is not really mine.
- offtopic: many years ago (at least 12, prolly closer to 15) cat-a-lot which was written on commons for commons, handled categorization of files only, someone on hewiki asked me to "inherit" it (not your OO inheritance - simply copy the whole shebang and hack it locally) such that it will handle other pages, not just in namespace 6. though i personally am not interested in categorization (hewiki decided on categorization scheme that makes categories almost completely useless there), i took the challenge and butchered the code until it relented and worked on articles too. a while later the upstream also did it, probably much better or :more correctly" than my hack. it still took several more years before i could replace my hack on hewiki with the shim, but eventually i did. don't remember what prompt me to copy the shim to enwiki - i'm sure there was some legit reason... anywhoo, i don't think i used cat-a-lot on enwiki even once.
- peace. קיפודנחש (aka kipod) (talk) 22:26, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
