Statusletters on league tables

[edit]

Hi, Since you have been editing statusletters for league table I wanted to inform you about the discussion at Module talk:Sports table#Statusletters on league tables. From what I am aware of, statusletter was not used last season until team actually qualified, but now that edit seems to want them, perhaps using X,Y, and Z with optional wording (see example at Template:2014–15 Eredivisie table) is the best to explain the individual situation, otherwise T might also be used. We can not put Q if teams may qualify for something else. If you have something to say please join the discussion at Module talk:Sports table#Statusletters on league tables or feel free to ask me at my talkpage. QED237 (talk)

Every action...

[edit]

Hello Chris. Thanks for updating the Braintree article with their new manager – but remember Newton's third law – for every action, there is an equal and opposition reaction – i.e. in many cases a manager has to leave another team to join the other (Cowley left Concord Rangers). Please make sure you edit both articles next time, otherwise it ends up looking like someone is managing two clubs simultaneously! Cheers, Number 57 16:16, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Cjrko17: Wait until confirmation from reliable websites such as WWE.com before adding new matches, as work on Wikipedia needs reliable sources and we could see another match happen instead. ChrisMorris1234 21:41, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RfC: boxing

[edit]

Greetings. Since you edit boxing articles regularly, you might like to participate in an RfC about how weight classes are formatted on WP. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:26, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Re: The new major changes

[edit]

Greetings! There's been a lot of movement at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Boxing, which so far seems to have the following covered:

  • Ditching flagicons is gathering steam, but there are still the occasional dissenters (1, 2), neither of whom have much interest in actually discussing their objections
  • Two-word weight classes should be hyphenated if a boxer is not from the US or Mexico, so "super-featherweight" for boxers from Europe, Canada, Africa, Oceania, etc.
  • Discard the hyphen if they are from the US or Mexico, or are based in the US like Sergey Kovalev, i.e. "light heavyweight"
  • Weight classes are not proper nouns, therefore it should "light welterweight" rather than "Light Welterweight". The UFC's way of using proper nouns to describe their weight classes works on a different principle.
  • Bouts with nothing of note (no titles or eliminators at stake, etc.) should discard any blank instances of |align=left| so as to avoid the unnecessary grid lines
  • The rowspan idea is something with I'm only experimenting at the moment. I'm not yet at the stage where I'm going to attempt to include it as part of the MOS that I'm writing up, but I do think it streamlines the tables nicely.

If you have any other suggestions or feedback, I'd very much like to hear it. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 00:19, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mac Dreamstate: I really like these, it makes the records look tidier and eliminates confusion on settings such as locations and hypens. ChrisMorris1234 01:10, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
However, it looks like this guy might be a tricky customer to convince, based on edits like these: 1, 2, 3. Since he's pretty much taken up ownership of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. article, it's likely only a matter of time before he'll say to me, "I can care less about your discussion. You ain't no damn admin." Charming fella, I'm sure. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 01:23, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Apprentice (UK) - Articles on each Series of the show

[edit]

Hi, I thought I would send out a message to prominent editors who work upon the articles that cover each Series of the The Apprentice (UK). I have begun to start wondering if we, as editors, are doing the right thing by writing out these articles in a manner that seems to be not encyclopedic as they should be in regards to the general principle of Wikipedia. I state this because, over all of the Series that have been done, all information on each episode that has been broadcast, editors write out the Episodes in term of detailing a general review of a task, the setup of teams, who won and who lost, the reward provided, who was fired and why, and noting down notable events and such like associated to the episode.

Now, when QI's main article was made, editors decided to cover each Series by writing out everything that was discussed as an answer to a question, as if it was a fact of importance; even I was one such editor who did this. Eventually, a Wikipedian finally decided to end this by deleting the pages and just ensuring that the episodes were listed in terms of their number, title, the guests on it and who won that episode, and the Air Date it was first broadcast on (including QI XL).

The fact is, I believe that this is happening again in regards to this show, in that any Wikipedian who comes to the articles in each Series, are generally writing out information that appears to make the site appear more like a Blog, than an online encyclopedia. I fear that unless action is taken now to discuss what should be going into these articles, someone may come along and decide it may be necessary to delete these pages. I have started a discussion on this matter, over on the Talk page for the show's article, and would like you, as a Wikipedian who has been involved in these articles, to provide input on the matter.

I hope that by discussing the matter, we can generally determine what action should be taken on this issue. Please take time to consider this, when you can, and do pass this on to any Wikipedian that you know, has been editing these articles alongside yourself. Thank you for reading this. Weight classes/mixing and matching

[edit]

Greetings. Just wanted to let you know about how the weight classes are formatted now, so that it won't appear as though I'm reverting your edits for no reason. The consensus via this RfC, as now reflected MOS:BOXING#Sanctioning bodies and their titles, concluded that only one name for a weight class should be used in a single section. As an example, a record table cannot contain both "WBC cruiserweight" and "WBO junior-heavyweight"—it has to default to what WP uses, namely "cruiserweight". Same applies to other multiple-name weight classes—there cannot be both "super lightweight" and "junior welterweight" if a section contains WBA/WBC and IBF/WBO together; it must consolidate to "light welterweight". However, in the case of Krzysztof Głowacki or Chris Eubank, their lead sections only contain the WBO for that weight, so junior-heavyweight can be used. I know it's confusing, and I'm not the biggest fan of how that format currently works, but it's the most middle-ground solution we could come up with at WikiProject Boxing, and it had to be done in order to avoid anomalies like "WBO Junior Welterweight and EBU Super-Lightweight". Feedback needed: a tweak to professional boxing records

[edit]

This is a message I am leaving for users who regularly edit the record tables for boxers, or at least those keeping an eye on them. I have proposed to ditch "Professional debut" from the #1 fight slot on most contemporary records, and it would be appreciated if you could comment at the WikiProject Boxing talk page. Much thanks. RfC: location of Foxwoods Resort Casino (MOS:BOXING)

Greetings. There has been extensive discussion at Talk:WikiProject Boxing regarding the location of Foxwoods Resort Casino, and how it should be specified in MOS:BOXING. To form a consensus on this, your opinion as an active member of the Project is essential and highly welcome. The current discussion can be found here. Sockpuppet investigation

[edit]

{{Ivmbox |An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia talk:Sockpuppet investigations/CleverChris68, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
