Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Reference example
While creating your article you will need to find sources to back up the information you write down.
Finding your references
[edit]When you first create your submission there is a header that says References, with a {{reflist}} beneath it. Whenever a footnote is placed in an article with the <ref></ref> code, it is listed in the auto-generated {{reflist}}. For example:
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Anyone can edit Wikipedia. It is very important, simple and nice to read, and provides useful information to many Internet users around the world.
This statement needs a reference to back it up. Here is how to do it:
- Insert the code <ref></ref> after the sentence you wish to cite.
- Write the details of your reference between the <ref> and </ref>.
- Example
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Anyone can edit Wikipedia.<ref>Smith, John (2010). ''The Book About Wikipedia''. Publishers, Inc. ISBN 1234567890123.</ref> ==References== {{reflist}}
- This results in
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Anyone can edit Wikipedia.[1]
