- This cleanup project has been completed
- This project is sponsored by the Computer help desk and powered by Perl and Parse::MediaWikiDump
This is a list of double redirects as of the July 13, 2005 database dump. Thank you for showing an interest in helping; please read this before continuing. To contribute follow one of the links below and sign your name in a section. Each page is split into 25 sections and each section has 20 redirects.
This cleanup project has a few bugs:
- Some of the article titles and links have been mangled. If you want to you can try to research the proper article name but it is easier just to skip them. If you run into these you can simply ignore them; please be sure to remove these links when you have completed the section you are working on and are ready to remove the entire section. Example: puerto Aysén
- Quite a few double redirects have already been fixed and this is creating some confusion. If it does not look like there is anything that needs to be fixed you can safely skip that article. Again, please remove these already fixed articles along with the entire section when you are ready to remove the section you have completed.
- The [edit] links are broken for pages that have spaces in the title. If you care, you can fix this manually when editing your claimed sections by replacing any spaces between "title=" and "&action=" with underscores (_).
- The script that generates the double-redirect links incorrectly converts the first letter of each link to lowercase. This is not really a bug; the links still work fine, even though some look ugly.
Tips on fixing double-redirects
[edit]- If the link goes to a redirect page with a blue link, which when clicked gives a page that says at the top "Redirected from (somepage)", then it is a double-redirect. A double redirect is when page A redirects to page B, which then redirects to page C. The Wikipedia only properly supports one level of redirects. To fix this, page A (the first redirect page) should be edited to point to page C (the final page), instead of another redirect (page B) - and then please delete it from the list.
- Otherwise, if the link on the redirect page works correctly (i.e. shows the article, without saying "Redirected from (somepage)"), and is syntaxed correctly, then it has already been fixed - you can just ignore it.
- To help others find this project, consider signing your edits with something like: Fixed double redirect; [[Wikipedia:Computer help desk/cleanup/double redirects/20050713|You can help!]].
Further instructions are in each individual section. Thanks again for your consideration.

- Hi everybody! I guess I'm the first person to work on this; I'm just clearing up the first page. Everyone help out, it doesn't take long and there are lots of redirects done already. --Bash 05:22, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
- Just did my first section of 20 from page 17... it's not hard work, it doesn't take too long and it helps Wikipedia out. I'm gonna keep at it, and I encourage others to do likewise! (The Swami 06:57, 11 September 2005 (UTC))

- It's done! Now that it's over, I don't know what to do with the rest of my life. (Have you ever considered piracy? You'd make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts...) But seriously, how often does this page get generated? BonsaiViking 18:57, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- There's a user somewhere that has another list of double redirects but I can't remember who. CambridgeBayWeather 19:10, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- I'll join in with the next dump. On the other hand - can't this be done very quickly by a bot, like Rob Church's? ナイトスタリオン ✉ 23:25, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
