WikiProject Films has tens of thousands of articles about film, and it usually involves repetitive and mundane tasks to update them. Wikipedia has automated or semi-automated tools called bots which can perform these tasks. WikiProject Films can file bot requests to complete tasks such as infobox formatting or revising article elements to new standards. This page is intended to list such tasks in full so the project can file bot requests.

Infobox

[edit]
  • Insert the template with basic parameters filled in articles that don't have it?
  • Change "Infobox Film", "Infobox Movie", and "Infobox movie" to "Infobox film"
  • Remove links from values in |language= parameter
  • Implement {{film date}} template for dates in |released= parameter
  • Remove non-existent parameters from infobox using current list of parameters
  • Remove typically unused parameters (if empty) from infobox such as:
  • |image size=
  • |followed by=
  • |narrator=
  • |preceded by=
  • In |runtime= parameter, change "min"/"mins"/"min." to "minutes" as well as delink minute (and hour if included)
  • Add missing parameters that ought to be used:
  • |name=
  • |alt= <!-- see WP:ALT -->
  • |image=
  • |caption=
  • |director=
  • |producer=
  • |starring=
  • |released= <!-- {{Film date|Year|Month|Day|Location}} -->
  • |language=
  • Delete parameters |preceded by= and |followed by= due to their removals

Article body

[edit]
  • Remove links from regular dates used in articles (e.g., October 7 and 2010)
  • Add {{nowrap}} templates to month-day or day-month pairings per WP:DATE#Non-breaking spaces
  • Add {{nowrap}} templates to dollar figures such as £11 million or $18 million
  • Fix headers such as "The plot" → "Plot" or "External Links" → "External links"
    • Fix header titles such as "Awards" → "Accolades" and "DVD release" → "Home media".
  • Fix common typos (e.g., "Blu-Ray Disc" → "Blu-ray Disc")
[edit]
  • Fix common redirects in external link templates:
  • "Rottentomatoes", "Rotten Tomatoes", and "Rotten tomatoes" to "Rotten-tomatoes"
  • "IMDB title", "IMDBtitle", "IMDb Title", "Imdb movie", "Imdb title", "Imdb-title", and "Imdbtitle" to "IMDb title"
  • "Amg title" and "Amg movie", and "Allmovie" (ambiguous links cleaned up) to "Allmovie title"
  • Remove "cinema of" templates from individual film articles

Talk pages

[edit]
  • In mainspace talk pages (article talk, template talk, category talk, etc), change template name "FilmsWikiProject", "WP Film", "WP Films", "WPFILM", "WPFilms", "WikiProject Filmmaking", "WPFilms", "WPFilms", "Film" to "WikiProject Film"
  • In Category:Film, add {{WikiProject Film|class=Category}} to all sub-categories' talk pages
  • In Category:Film templates, add {{WikiProject Film|class=Template}} to talk pages of all templates in all sub-categories
  • If possible, remove botspam that is outdated and not worth archiving. Maybe 2009 and before?
